Returning a motorcycle: thorough cleaning

It's a good idea to start cleaning your bike thoroughly after getting out of jail to save money on your vehicle. But be careful, don't do anything. Explanations.

First, you can do a rough wash by going to your pressure washer. But, at the risk of repeating yourself, beware of the force of the water jet, which can cause serious damage, especially to the joints. A bucket of soapy water and a jet of water will work. You can also choose specialized products: they are designed for all very dirty motorcycle parts (rims, etc.). But be sure to use them correctly and test them on a small part of your machine beforehand. You can also use non-corrosive and natural products such as white vinegar or black soap. They require a little more elbow grease, but the results are often the same. Rinse the first time and make sure you don't forget anything, the dirty part on a clean motorcycle is easily visible.

Once everything is clean, wipe it down (old cotton sheets are fine) to avoid water stains. Polish can be used to brighten slightly dull paint and remove micro-scratches. Follow the instructions on the can and use a soft cloth or suede. This makes it possible to achieve a beautiful surface appearance and a rejuvenated motorcycle. Ideal before resale. If the metal parts (levers, controls, chrome, etc.) are slightly dirty or tarnished, they can be restored to a shine with metal repair products. For best results, feel free to rub the product with 000 metal wool (the thinnest) only on the unpainted parts.

Finally, for deep scratches, it's a good idea to purchase a scratch remover. Keep in mind that if all the paint is gone, the product won't work. This will slightly weaken the fading effect, but will not return the details to their original appearance. On the other hand, for small everyday scratches (tank, back cover near the seat lock, etc.), these products give a convincing result. This big cleaning can – and should – be done before you leave your bike for the winter. But make sure all parts are dry before storage to prevent oxidation of the part.
