Temporary road signs

Today, let's talk a little about temporary road signs and how they differ from road signs placed on a yellow background (billboards).

We all know from the rules of the road that permanent road signs have a white background.

Stationary (permanent) road signs are installed in the figure.

Temporary road signs

Road signs with a yellow background are temporary and are used at work sites.

The yellow background on the signs 1.8, 1.15, 1.16, 1.18 - 1.21, 1.33, 2.6, 3.11 - 3.16, 3.18.1 - 3.25, installed in the places of road works, indicates that these signs are temporary.

If the meanings of temporary road signs and stationary road signs contradict each other, drivers should be guided by temporary signs.

The photo shows temporary road signs.

From the above definition, it is important to note that if permanent and temporary signs contradict each other, the temporary signs should be guided.

To avoid conflicts, the national standard stipulates that when temporary signs are used, stationary signs of the same group must be covered or dismantled during road works.

GOST R 52289-2004 Technical measures for the organization of traffic.

5.1.18 Road signs 1.8, 1.15, 1.16, 1.18-1.21, 1.33, 2.6, 3.11-3.16, 3.18.1-3.25, installed on a yellow background, must be used in places where road works are carried out. While the signs 1.8, 1.15, 1.16, 1.18-1.21, 1.33, 2.6, 3.11-3.16, 3.18.1-3.25 on a white background are darkened or removed.

Warning signs outside built-up areas are installed at a distance of 150 to 300 m, in built-up areas - at a distance of 50 to 100 m from the beginning of the danger zone or at any other distance indicated on sign 8.1.1. At this stage, it should be noted that the road sign 1.25 "Roadworks" is installed with some differences from the usual installation of warning signs.

Sign 1.25 for short-term road works can be installed without sign 8.1.1 at a distance of 10-15 meters from the place of work.

Outside built-up areas, signs 1.1, 1.2, 1.9, 1.10, 1.23 and 1.25 are repeated, and the second sign is installed at least 50 m before the beginning of the danger zone. Signs 1.23 and 1.25 are also repeated in settlements directly at the beginning of the dangerous section.

In accordance with GOST R 52289-2004, signs can be installed on portable supports at work sites.

5.1.12 In places where road works are carried out and in the event of temporary operational changes in the organization of traffic, signs on portable supports may be installed on the carriageway, roadsides and median lanes.

The last requirement, which is often overlooked, is the need to dismantle the technical means of traffic management (road signs, markings, traffic lights, road barriers and guides) after the completion of road works.

4.5 Technical measures for the organization of traffic, the application of which was caused by temporary reasons (road repair work, seasonal road conditions, etc.), will be removed after the termination of the above reasons. Signs and traffic lights can be closed with covers.

With the release of the new Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation No. 664 dated August 23.08.2017, XNUMX, the requirement to prohibit the use of means of automatically fixing violations in places where traffic restrictions are established using temporary road signs has disappeared.

At the end of the review about the signs located on a yellow (yellow-green) background (discs). It turns out that yellow-green signs sometimes cause confusion even for experienced drivers.

Some road users are convinced that yellow signs are also temporary. Indeed, according to GOST R 52289-2004, permanent signs with a yellow-green reflective film are placed on billboards to prevent accidents and attract the attention of drivers.

The figure shows road sign 1.23 "Children", on the left - a standard sign, on the right - a yellow background (shield). A sign on a yellow background attracts more attention.

In the photo - the signs "1.23 Children", "thank you" to those responsible for installing the signs, who left the previous sign for comparison.

Signs placed on billboards with fluorescent reflective film (at pedestrian crossings, childcare facilities, etc.) are more visible both during the day and at night and attract the attention of drivers, which is an effective way to prevent accidents (accidents).

All safe roads!
