Time to change tires

Time to change tires Although it is still autumn outside the window, it is worth thinking about changing summer tires to winter ones. All this so that we are not surprised by the winter weather and so that we do not have to spend a lot of time in queues for tire fitting.

One of the elements of winterizing your car is choosing the right tires. All drivers must change them, Time to change tiresalso those who drive mostly on roads in cities where snow rarely occurs. Driving in winter on summer tires leads to the fact that sufficient grip and braking distance are not provided. We were supposed to change tires adapted to winter conditions, when the average temperature during the day is plus 7 degrees Celsius. There are no rules for replacing them, but it is better to do this for your own safety.

The market offers a wide range of winter tires, but remember that the most important thing is to match the tire to the car. They must be the same on all wheels. In addition to price and quality, it is recommended to pay attention to, among other things, such parameters as traction, rolling resistance and the level of external noise.

Some drivers prefer to buy used winter tires. In this case, in addition to the tread depth, check that the tread wears evenly and that there are no cracks or bubbles on the tire. All tires, whether summer or winter, wear out. If we use tires that have already been used in previous seasons, we must check that the tread depth is at least 4 mm. If yes, then it is better to replace the tires with new ones. Winter tires with a tread less than 4mm are less efficient at removing water and slush, says Lukasz Sobiecki, BRD expert.

All season tires are very popular. They have worse snow performance than typical winter tires, but are much more efficient than summer tires. The central part of the tread has more notches to improve grip on snow, but they are made of a harder compound, which improves the car's handling on dry pavement.

An alternative to buying new tires is also choosing retreaded tires. However, it is worth knowing that the level of performance such as traction, braking and volume offered by them is usually lower than that of new tires.

How about tire storage? A dark, dry room is best. Tires should never be stored in an open, unprotected area, because then the rubber from which they are made will quickly fail. It should be noted that the tires should be placed vertically, and not hung on hooks. Whole wheels with rims may lie on top of each other and must not be placed vertically. If we don't have space to store them, we can leave them at the tire shop. The cost of such a service for the whole season is about PLN 60.
