Everything you need to know about charging your Kia e-Soul

New Kia e-Soul available with battery 39,2 kWh and 64 kWhoffering a range of up to 452 km of autonomy in the combined WLTP cycle.

If this urban crossover has a long range, it is nevertheless necessary to charge the vehicle once or several times a week according to your needs.

Kia e-Soul charging specifications

The Kia e-Soul is equipped with a European CCS Combo connector that allows you to:

- normal load : 1,8 to 3,7 kW (household socket)

- boost charge : 7 to 22 kW (recharges at home, office, or public AC terminal)

- fast charging : 50 kW or more (recharging at public DC terminal).

The vehicle is also equipped with a Type 2 socket for fast charging with alternating current (AC), as well as a standard charger for charging from a household outlet (12A). Fast charging is available on the Kia e-Soul, however we advise you to limit fast charging to avoid accelerating battery aging.

Depending on the power of the charging station used, the Kia e-Soul can charge more or less quickly. For example, for the 64 kWh version, the car will require approximately 7 hours recovery 95% charging station loads 11 kW (AC)... On the other hand, with a DC terminal 100 кВт, that is, with fast charging, the Kia e-Soul will be able to recover 50% charge in just 30 minutes.

You can also use the Clean Automobile Charging Simulator, which estimates charging times and kilometers recovered based on the terminal's output, desired charging percentage, weather, and road type.

Charging cables for Kia e-Soul

With the purchase of the Kia e-Soul, the vehicle comes with a household outlet charging cable and a Type 2 single-phase charging cable for AC boost charging (32A).

You can add an 11 kW three-phase on-board charger to your Kia e-Soul, which sells for € 500. With this option, you also have a Type 2 three-phase cable, allowing recharging from the three-phase AC (AC) terminal.

The Kia e-Soul is also equipped with a Combo CCS connector, but for this connector the correct cable is always connected to the charging station.

House

Whether you live in a single-family home, an apartment building, or are a renter or owner, you can easily charge your Kia e-Soul at home. The most important thing is to choose the solution that best suits your needs and type of home.

You can choose to charge at home - this is the cheapest solution, ideal for charging at home at night, but the charging speed is the slowest. If you wish to charge your Kia e-Soul from a household outlet, we advise you to have a professional check your electrical installation and ensure that you charge safely.

You can also opt for the enhanced Green'Up socket, which will allow you to charge your Kia e-Soul in a safe and faster way than from your home socket. Loading times remain long, however, and the cost of enhanced grip needs to be considered.

Finally, you can install a Wallbox-type charging station in your home for fast charging in complete safety. However, this solution costs between 500 and 1200 euros. In addition, if you live in a condominium, you must have an individual electricity meter and covered / closed parking in order to set up a terminal.

In the office

You can easily charge your Kia e-Soul in the office if your business has charging stations. If this is not the case, you can ask your management for it: you may not be the only one with an electric car!

You can find many charging stations on the streets, in the parking lots of shopping malls and big brands like Auchan and Ikea, or on the highways.

The Kia e-Soul Active, Design and Premium versions have geolocation for charging stations thanks to Kia LIVE connected services. It also lets you know the availability of terminals, compatible connectors, and available payment methods.

In addition, all Kia e-Souls have the KiaCharge Easy service, which makes it easy to charge your vehicle online from nearly 25 terminals in France. You have access to a map and an app to find charging stations, and you pay not a monthly subscription, but only for the load.

Top-up payment methods

House

If you decide to install a charging station in your home, these are costs that you should consider in your budget.

As for the cost of a "full" recharge of the Kia e-Soul, it will be included in your electricity bill for your home.

Automobile Propre also offers an estimate of the cost of AC recharging, which is € 10,14 for a full charge from 0 to 100% at an EDF base rate for the Kia e-Soul of 64 kWh.

In the office

If you have charging stations in your business, you will be able to charge the Kia e-Soul for free most of the time.

In addition, some companies partially or fully cover the fuel costs of their employees during home / work trips. Electricity costs for electric vehicles are one of them.

If you charge your Kia e-Soul in the car parks of supermarkets, malls or large retailers, charging is free.

On the other hand, charging stations located on the road or on motorway axles are toll charges. With the KiaCharge Easy service, you pay not a subscription, but a session fee of € 0,49 per fee, plus a roaming fee, to which the operator adds the charge.

Thus, the cost of recharging your account will depend on the network of the terminal you are using, for example, calculate from 0,5 to 0,7 euros for 5 minutes of recharging in the Corri-door network or even 0,79 euros / min in the IONITY network.
