All generations of Chevrolet Camaro

America. After the end of World War II, more than seventy million children are born in the United States. By the early 60s, most of that generation were graduating from high school. They get rights. Raised in the spirit of Rock and Roll, young people do not want to drive the slow and boring cars of their fathers. Give them something extraordinary, catchy, loud.

Stimulated by the quirks of the older generation, car racing companies produce powerful monsters with insane fuel consumption and direct exhaust. The American concern Chevrolett is also involved in the unstoppable race. The manufacturer has achieved great results and still occupies one of the leading positions in the car market. The lion's share of such popularity to the holding was brought by the Camaro brand.

The history of the Camaro model begins with the novelty of the automobile industry. The body in the style of the pony car immediately interested in the obstinate youth. The model with the body number 100001 was created as a test version before mass production.

The sports two-door coupe was the first representative of the American muscularis from the family camaro. The car was equipped with a motor with a volume of 3,7 liters per six cylinders. The drive of all cars of this lineup is rear. And the manufacturer was not going to retreat from his vision of classic cars.

The next generation of cars in this review was the Z / 28. Over time, the manufacturer made some changes to the chassis of the car, as well as equipped with more powerful engines. Thanks to this, for several generations the retromobile retained its freshness and corresponded to the needs of the market.

Compared to the previous version, the car received more sensitive handling. Technical changes also affected the power unit. This time, the equipment included a loud and unstable V-shape of an eight-cylinder engine at that time. The five-liter unit developed 290 horsepower.

The maximum speed that the car was capable of was 197 km / h. But thanks to the gluttony, the Chevrolet took the milestone of one hundred kilometers / hour 8,1 seconds.

As can be seen in the photo, the next version of the first generation Camaro was different from the previous body type. Initially, the model was created as a personal car for Pete Estes, director of the Chevrolet department of General Motors.

The car was assembled by hand. The company management signed a permit for mass production. However, public cars were not equipped with disc brakes on all wheels. They did not have an air intake on the hood.

The latest model of the first generation Camaro was created for competition on rally tracks. The power of the power unit was higher compared to previous counterparts. For this, the manufacturer installed a V-8 engine under the hood of the car. Its volume was an incredible seven liters. Due to the high cost, the model did not receive a large batch.

According to some reports, the company released a limited edition. Its feature was an aluminum cylinder block, which was 45 kilograms lighter than a conventional engine. The power of the unique unit also increased to 430 horsepower. A total of 69 silver pony cars were released. Of these, 50 were special orders from an authorized dealer, Fred Gibb.

The second generation of supercars opened the model shown in the photo. The novelty has acquired more athletic and aggressive features. Plus, it got harder. Therefore, in the engine compartment no longer a standard 3,8 liter engine was installed. The basic equipment of this series now includes a six-cylinder engine with a volume of four liters.

Motorists who liked the V-8 were provided with a five-liter version for 200 horses. Soon the lineup was replenished with less gluttonous cars. This was due to the ripening gasoline crisis. Therefore, car sales fell sharply.

Chevrolet Camaro 74 years old received a reinforced bumper (in accordance with the new safety requirements for high-speed vehicles). The technical characteristics of the model also changed.

The basic equipment of power units includes two options. The first is a six-cylinder. And the second is an 8-cylinder block. Both engines had the same volume - 5,7 liters.

In the second half of the 70s, the standards for exhaust emissions were tightened. The government raised the tax on the possession of powerful vehicles. One after another, companies are developing advanced exhaust systems that significantly reduce the power of cars. All this influenced the decline in sales of the next version of muscle cars.

The next series of the second generation has undergone some facelift. Now the coarse metal bumpers were covered with plastic. The car received modified front fenders, grille and optics.

Since it was impossible to increase the engine power, the company's engineers focused on the suspension and control system. The car has become softer and more responsive to steering. The upgraded exhaust system complied with emission standards, but acquired a more “juicy” sports sound.

The camaro shown in the photo was created specifically for races in which the brand acted as the general sponsor. The off-road racing ponicar is a sports version of the Z28.

Since the rules of the competition allowed the use of non-standard engines, the novelty revived the tradition of installing a five-liter roaring unit under the hood with a capacity of 215 horsepower. The machine was equipped with disc brakes on all wheels.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the birth of the first Camaro, the corresponding inscription appeared on the front panel of the limited edition car. For an additional fee, a motorist could order pasting sports stripes across the entire body and anniversary badges. This model closed the third generation lineup.

The name of the brand speaks about the goal of producing the first fourth-generation car. The official sponsor of the next Indianapolis-500 auto racing timed this event to the start of the fourth season of the "American Dream." The F-1 competition safety car received smooth body lines and a powerful engine.

The base for creating a car was the same Z28. The updated engine had the same V-8 shape as previous cars. Only thanks to an improved fuel supply and gas distribution system, he developed 275 horses. A total of 645 copies of this series came off the assembly line.

The novelty, very similar to the Peyscar, visually seemed lower than its predecessor. A huge air intake appeared on the hood. The front of the car is made in the usual Z / 28 style - pointed and slightly bent in the center shape of the bumper.

The SS prefix indicates the sports characteristics of the modified "American". The car received a 5,7-liter “heart” in the form of a V-8. The car developed a capacity of 305 horsepower. It was a lite version of the standard motor. It was made of aluminum instead of cast iron. The heavier version of the ICE produced only 279 horses with the same volumes.

In the summer of 2002, General Motors announced the discontinuation of the Chevrolet Camaro (and, incidentally, the Pontiac Firebird). The Wall Street Center for the World Economy made such a difficult decision. Stock exchange analysts said the company has too many factories and therefore needs to cut production.

The end of the fourth season was marked by the appearance of the limited edition Z28 with a hinged roof. A quarter of the cars were equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. As a power unit, the anniversary (35th production of the model range) series received a V-shaped eight, developing 310 horsepower.

2010 Camaro SS

Fifth generation cars no longer look like the classic Chevrolet Camaro. The novelty turned out to be so beautiful that it immediately won the prize of “audience sympathy”. In 2010, an incredible amount of a production car with a concept car body, shown at the 2009 motor show, was sold.

61 motorists now enjoyed the "rich bass" of the eight-cylinder V-engine. The power unit developed a capacity of 648 horsepower. And this is in the stock version.

Since then, the body of the remaining representatives of this "family" has not undergone significant changes. Thanks to this, camaros are recognized even without a badge.

Camaro Z / 28 test car for the Nurburgring

The review is completed by the 2017 model. Updated externally and under the hood of the Z / 28 with the LT4 engine, it passed the race track in Germany in record time for the represented family of American power. The representative of the sixth generation overcame the ring in 7 minutes and 29,6 seconds.

The car is equipped with a new traction control system and a ten-speed automatic transmission. In the "track" mode, the robot itself determines the optimal transmission, which ensures smooth switching without unnecessary loss of time. Together with the “smart” transmission, a 6,2-liter V-engine with 8 cylinders is running. Maximum engine power - 650 horsepower.

This review shows that American cars may have restrained elegance. Moreover, throughout the history of production, not a single model of the Camaro series has become a boring everyday machine.
