Bicycles will soon become mandatory on buses.

A new decree 2021-190, designed to facilitate intermodal transport, obliges operators to equip their new buses with a system that allows at least five bicycles to be transported unassembled.

Flixbus, Blablabus ... new rules introduce "free organized bus services" integrate systems for transporting bicycles for your passengers.

This provision, introduced by Decree 2021-190, published on February 20 in the Official Journal, will enter into force on July 1, 2021. It requires that all new buses entering service be integrated into a system to carry at least five unassembled bicycles.

Duty to inform

In addition to equipment, the decree requires the relevant bus operators to make information regarding the transport of bicycles and e-bicycles available to the public.

In particular, it is necessary to indicate the type of equipment used, methods of loading and booking, and applicable prices (if any). The operator must also provide a list of unattended stops.

Also on trains

This new provision complements another decree passed on January 19 for trains, which sets the number of unassembled bicycles that can be loaded onto trains at 8.
