You can control your Volvo from home with new Google Home features

Volvo aims to make it easier for customers to interact with their cars by linking the Google Home assistant to cars. By linking your Volvo car to your Google account, you can communicate directly with Google in your car and remotely control various functions such as heating on a cold winter day or locking your car.

The Swedes in Gothenburg seem to lean heavily on their connection to Google. These Swedes are, of course, from Volvo. New technology unveiled at CES will allow you to control your new car, van or SUV made in Gothenburg with your voice.

What does Google Home do?

Google Home is a competitor to Amazon's Alexa home voice assistant. It does more than just change ads depending on what you're talking about. Now he wants to help you drive your car. As more and more new cars embrace new technology, Volvo wants to use a home assistant to stay ahead of the competition by bringing the smartphone war to its car.

How does Google Home work with your Volvo?

With remote start technology, you can tell your smart assistant to start the car before you leave. However, be careful as Walking to a warm car is always a bonus, but Volvo says it has many more features planned for when the system rolls out in the coming months.

Volvo wants to use your house to drive

The "Ok Google" feature is incredibly useful in hands-free environments, and Volvo plans to capitalize on this in its new vehicles. Soon you'll be able to do more than just start your car from the couch. Google and the people of Gothenburg say that soon you will also be able to get car data from your sofa. In fact, this is a real benefit. If both brands opt for this technology, you'll be able to figure out what's wrong with your Volvo before you go to the dealer.

The Volvo infotainment system is powered by Google software, so we believe there will be plenty of additional features soon after launch. After activating the Google/Volvo pairing, you will also be able to upload YouTube to your car's infotainment system. Given Volvo's approach to cars that puts safety first, this is a bit of a surprise. Obviously, in-car video can be distracting for drivers.

Future automotive technology aims to turn your car into an extension of your phone

Electric vehicles started the “make your car look like a phone” trend, and now new gas-powered cars have enough technology and features to further that integration. With features like voice control and YouTube integration, consumers expect more and more from their cars every day. Whether we will soon reach the "too" too soon level remains to be seen.
