Manufacturers who highlight the instrument panel in their cars in green claim that this is a calm color that does not irritate the driver. Manufacturers who offer purple or red to their customers explain that this color matches the brand's image.
Now adding the appropriate ideology is not a problem. This would not be necessary if each driver could personally choose the color that best suits him. The 2005 Ford Mustang, equipped with a Delphi-designed instrument panel, makes this possible. The driver can choose from a palette of 125 different colors and shades.
The instrument cluster is illuminated by three LEDs in three primary colors that can be mixed into 6 colors: green (photo above) , Violetta (photo on the left) , blue, white, orange and red. Thanks to the use of fiber optic technology, the driver can additionally mix these colors in five intensity levels on the on-board computer screen. Thus, 125 different possibilities can be obtained.
It can be expected that after the popularization of this innovative instrument panel, its price will drop so much that it can also be installed in low-cost cars.
