Reasonable car buyers always check that they will be satisfied with the tires mounted on the car. They check the tires for wear, and therefore potentially dangerous. Remember that these four areas of rubber, which are the only part of your vehicle that make contact with the road, are absolutely essential in keeping you safe on the road.
Tire knowledge translates into a better price for the car
If the tires are worn out and need to be replaced immediately after purchase, this is an argument to reduce the price of the car. So it can be used in negotiations with the seller. A basic understanding of tire brands also helps. Tires may be new, but will their brand really guarantee you adequate safety? Does this brand offer long-term performance or will you need to change tires more often than usual? Use your knowledge to make the right choice and save some money.
How safe are the tires used?
Before fitting used tires, have them inspected by a specialist. For a simple reason: you need to know if they are safe, and a professional will tell you if their use will be legal. Of course, if you want 200 percent safety for yourself and your loved ones, it's best to trust new tires from a recognized brand.
How to read tire labels
Basic tire condition check
You don't need to be an expert to check if the tread grooves are too shallow to drain water effectively. This is very dangerous with modern tires!
It is worth knowing that for summer tires or tires for general use, the minimum permissible depth of the tread grooves is 1,6 mm. But it's better not to run the car on tires with a tread thinner than 3 mm. Some European countries have a minimum tread depth of 3-4 mm for winter tires.
Of course, some degree of tire wear is acceptable. Install two tires with the same degree of wear on one axle. The same applies to the tread pattern - it is recommended to install tires with the same tread pattern on one axle. This is a legal requirement in many countries.
However, we often forget about the spare wheel. Check that the car you want to buy has a spare tire and check what condition it is in.
How to check tire wear
If you have any doubts about the condition of the tires, replace them with new ones. Preferably those with good parameters: optimal safety, durability and fuel economy.
