The trade presents various motor oils from different manufacturers, which have different prices. Car owners, in an effort to reduce operating costs, are looking for good and cheap oils.

Although oils from different manufacturers belong to the same class, each manufacturer keeps the recipe of the oil composition secret, enriching the so-called base with various additives, including those with detergent properties. Replacing used oil with another can adversely affect the condition of the power unit, since detergents can dissolve contaminants that clog oil channels. This may cause the engine to seize. The second common consequence is the loss of engine tightness.

Low mileage engines can be topped up with oil of the same viscosity and quality class, for example, for business trips. The rule should be to run the engine at all times with the oil recommended in the vehicle manufacturer's manual.
