Choosing a battery for a VAZ 2110

I think that the onset of the Ice Age has become a big problem for many car owners, since it is not always possible to start the engine in such cold weather. So I had such a misfortune on the VAZ 2110: the native battery departed for 4 years and safely refused to work after the next start-up at - 28 degrees. Of course, it was possible to buy a charger and charge it by adding electrolyte of the required density. But I thought that buying a new battery is a smarter decision, since the old one is far from fresh and it is not known how long it can last.

So, after my VAZ 2110 did not start in the morning, I immediately went to the store, which was literally 10 meters from my entrance. Now I'll tell you below which battery I bought and why.

Battery selection

So, from the presented goods in the window, for me there were several manufacturers that deserved attention. In fact, there were only two of them.

• Bosch - German brand
• Varta - also a German company, but operating as a subsidiary brand of an American company

Since for your car it was necessary to choose from the 55 Ah class, there were few such options, even among these eminent manufacturers. Basically there were ordinary models from the Black series and more expensive ones from the Silver class. The first is a simpler model, which is from one, that from the second manufacturer and is designed for operation in medium temperature conditions. If we consider the starting current, then both for Varta and Bosch it was 480 A, which is a very good indicator.

Regarding batteries from the Silver series, the following can be said - they are designed for very low temperatures and are able to start the engine in extreme conditions. I did not consider such specimens, since the frosts in central Russia are not so hard (not taking into account 2014), and such colds last quite a short time. Therefore, I considered options for the cheaper Black series.

Now about the choice of battery manufacturer. If you read a little history about Varta, you will understand that this company is the undisputed leader in the production and sales of batteries for cars of all classes. Moreover, he deals only with batteries, and a narrow specialization for any company is a huge plus. Of course, compared to Bosch, it is a little more expensive in price, but you can be sure that this is an overpayment not only for the brand, but also for very high quality.

As a result, after some thought, it was decided to stop at the Varta Black Dynamic C 15 model, which had a capacity of 55 Ah, and a rather strong starting current of 480 Amps. In comparison with the native AKOM battery, there were only 425 A. As a result, the purchase cost me 3200 rubles, which is quite a lot compared to competitors, but I am sure that now there will definitely be no problems with starting the engine in any frost.
