Growing up: we drove an Audi Q3

Otherwise, not everything is in size, and I do not support the idea that every car of the new generation should be larger than its predecessor. However, there are people who also buy cars by size. Unfortunately, their garages are too small and they simply cannot have a bigger car. And so they don't need him.

Of course, the Audi Q3 is not a car for people who have few garages. Maybe someone will be found, but even the smallest Q is one of the premium cars. So with the price, now, after a major overhaul, I shamelessly write it down as a car. And yes, also because it is bigger.

The previous generation was quite good. Since 2011, when the Q3 was released, it has been chosen by more than a million customers, considering that in all this time the car was cosmetically decorated only once. But now, with the second generation, comes a completely redesigned and, above all, grown-up. However, not only centimeters play a role here, but also the overall image. According to the Germans, the Q3 is now an equal member of the Q family, which Audi has reserved for true SUVs. If you just quickly fly over the car, you have to agree with this - four-wheel drive, an off-road driving program, a safe descent system and what else can be found.

But the fact is that few of his clients are really seduced at first sight. Therefore, such a car should impress not only with its capabilities. The first noticeable difference is sportiness. If the predecessor still looked a bit clunky, maybe even too round and bloated, now the new Q3 has a much sportier look. The lines are more pronounced, the grille stands out (which, by the way, allows you to immediately know which family the car belongs to in Audi), even the big wheels make their own. For many, the Q3 will be a design hit to the fullest. Now it's not too small anymore, but on the other hand it's not too big, so it's not inconvenient and of course still much cheaper than the larger Q5. It also benefits from new technology, which means that, for example, the new Q3 will already be available as standard with LED lighting, while smart, i.e., matrix LED lamps, will be available at an additional cost.

The interior is convincing too. It has little in common with its predecessor, also because it follows the new design principles of Audi. This gives sharper lines, the central screen with black glass being the leading element of course. We have said many times that he is radiant and sensitive, but on the other hand, he is so elegant and cute that we must forgive him. Fingerprints too. Under it, in the usual form, there are buttons and switches for controlling the ventilation device, and even below are the engine start buttons and the audio system volume control button, which is a little inconvenient. However, they are not so much worried about the buttons themselves as the base on which they are located, while the distance between them is so great that it immediately seems that something is missing there. But fortunately for the Germans, this is also the new Q3's only drawback. At least on the first ball.

On the other hand, the dashboard improves the mood. For the first time in an Audi, it is always digital, regardless of the equipment selected. If the customer opts for a central MMI display along with navigation, the basic digital instrument cluster will of course be replaced by an Audi virtual cockpit. Following in the footsteps of its older brothers, the Q3 offers Wi-Fi, Audi connectivity between other vehicles and road signs, Google Earth navigation, mobile apps and connectivity, and of course a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 3-speaker 15D sound ... .,

Least new in the engine range. The engines are more than unknown, but of course redesigned and updated. Three petrol and one diesel engines will be available initially, with the family expanding later.

And the trip? More than not the same for all Audi lately. This means above average, as the synergy of the engine, transmission (including all-wheel drive), chassis and drivetrain is truly top notch.

After all, the car is longer (almost ten centimeters), wider (+8 cm) and lower (-5 mm) compared to its predecessor, and the wheelbase is also almost 9 centimeters longer. As a result, a comfortable feeling inside is guaranteed, and the back bench deserves special praise. Now it can move longitudinally by as much as 15 centimeters, which makes the car even more convenient to use. Both in the cabin and in the trunk. Just decide for yourself where.
