Wiesmann returns for 2020: new sports car with BMW V8 – Sports Cars

About 5 years after the rescue by British investors who saved the brand from extinction, Wiesmann will return to the market with a model that goes on sale. 2020 and will be equipped with an engine V8 from BMW.

The German brand was founded in 1988 (and has been producing retro sports cars since 1993) by brothers Martin and Friedrich Wiesmann - one engineer, the other businessman - and closed its doors in 2014 after a dramatic economic crisis that began in 2009. Now, however, the storm has passed, the new British owners are ready to be reborn. Wiesmann.

In particular, the brand specialized in the production of exclusives. Rodaster, and a little GT, in style retro but with modern technology and engines BMW, among the most powerful, as a mechanical basis. All this is done exclusively in an artisanal way.

The appearance of the first model, which will herald a renaissance and, I hope, a successful rebirth of the brand. Wiesmann, will be ready in a few months, after a long development called The Gecko Project... Mario Spitzer, who was one of the marketing managers for Mercedes and AMG, will lead the company. And also the new neoclassic of the second era Wiesmann should follow the style of the roadster, in accordance with tradition and with a 50:50 weight distribution, like a real sports car.

The brand's new shareholders have said the entire vehicle, including the design, will be completely new, even if it retains the classic and unmistakable character of the brand. Under the skin there will be a signed engine again BMW, in this case an 8-liter V4,4 and twin turbos. In short, the same as the BMW M5.

Therefore, the power should be around 600 hp, which is a significant jump considering that the latter Wiesmann it had "only" a 420 hp transmission.
