Wreck Race Silesia 2012 - for lovers of legal destruction

On Sunday, 15.07.2012/2/1000, the next stage of the Wrak Race Silesia Round "XNUMX" took place, that is, the Silesian Wrak Race competition on the Dakar Drift track in Ruda Śląska. What it is? Well, the rules are very simple. Cars can participate in the race, the market value of which does not exceed PLN XNUMX, and the number of laps determines the victory.

What is this rather unusual event about? The rules are very simple. Sixteen crews come to the start of the race, the goal of which is extremely simple - to survive! The race lasts 30 minutes, and at the very end, not your position, but the number of laps is taken into account. There is a lot of leeway when it comes to "cars" in the race, although one rule cannot be broken - the market value of a car cannot exceed PLN 1000. Thus, we can decide on an old ruin and restore it "professionally" with plywood, a hammer and screws, as well as buy a sports car in good condition and decorate it with neat graphics.

It is also worth mentioning that the Wreck Race is a relatively new phenomenon in our country, although this type of racing has been held in the world for a long time. Scandinavia is closest to us, where such events are organized almost every weekend, and almost everyone takes part in them - from teenagers to pensioners. This is a great way to defuse the emotions that have accumulated over the week at work - instead of breaking the rules in the city, you can go to the highway, modify your car a bit, and then drive calmly and safely on public roads.

We were also at the Wrak Race and supported one of the teams, and below is a report from the race, prepared by the participant.

On Sunday morning, 16 teams came to the start. There were four qualifying runs, two of which reached the final.

Among the crews was the AutoCentrum.pl team, i.e. we: Marek – driver, Mateusz – pilot. Initially, we were supposed to drive a Caro 1,6 GLI Polonaise, purchased specifically for this occasion earlier. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the car was in very good condition, on Saturday she did not reach Ruda Sileska and died at Kobiorski Las at about 18.00:22.00. We stayed on the ice. Fortunately, the last car that arrived for the Polonaise was still working. Instead of the monetary equivalent of the weight of the Polonaise, we managed to get a replacement for another driving car. The only thing that could be used was a red Citroen AX that only ran on gas. The Citroen was definitely not a dream car, but we were still in the game. In the evenings we were able to go home and open our beer in peace.

We spent Sunday morning getting the car ready for the race, both mechanically - filling fluids, removing unnecessary pieces of equipment, and aesthetically, i.e. wrapping the car and painting it in more rally colors.

The races were very exciting. Many crews did not complete their flights and more wreckage remained on the route. The winners of the general classification folded the tires during the qualifying runs and changed the wheel during the race. Luckily for them, the other two members constantly tormented their wreckage. Super Wreck winners had to replace the radiator in their Golf between races.

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to reach the final. In our ax, the belt broke and the collar fell off. Quick service on the track allowed us to get back into the game, but we lost one lap and Ryzykantovsky golf reached the final.

We promise the next release will be better.
