On October 14, 2016, Airbus officially handed over the 350th anniversary aircraft produced by the consortium to Singapore Airlines. It was an A900 XWB-54 with serial number MSN9 and registration plates 10,000V-SMF. It was given a special "1974 19th Airbus Aircraft" logo and entered service on Singapore-San Francisco flights in late October. Airbus, which entered the market in 19, took 110 years to produce its first 213 aircraft and 12 months to produce its last. To date, they have completed XNUMX million cruises, traveled a distance of XNUMX billion km, carried XNUMX billion passengers on board.

The 16th anniversary aircraft built by the Airbus consortium is one of 746 aircraft ordered by 393 customers. It is probably no coincidence that this was not the most popular narrow-body A320, but the most modern product of the European consortium: the Airbus A350 XWB-900. The aircraft is not only wide-body, for which the manufacturer has the biggest plans, but also went to the corresponding operator. This is Singapore Airlines (SIA), which is one of the largest customers, having ordered 67 aircraft of this type. The commemorative Airbus A350 with serial number MSN54 also became the 42th aircraft of this type and became the sixth aircraft in the carrier's fleet. It should be noted that Singapore Airlines placed its first order with Airbus in 1979, and over the years the carrier and its subsidiaries have ordered new Airbus models. Singapore Airlines currently operates the A330, A350 XWB and A380 aircraft, while its regional companies operate aircraft from the A320 narrow body family.

The handover of the aircraft was marked by a special ceremony personally conducted by Airbus Group CEO Tom Anders and attended by Singapore Airlines CEO. … From the very beginning, innovation has been at the heart of everything we do at Airbus. This allows us to look like they are implementing what is today the most modern in the world fleet. With a focus on research and development, continuous innovation and improvement, we will ensure that we maintain our leading position by providing airlines with the best aircraft. We are especially proud to be celebrating this milestone with Singapore Airlines, one of our loyal customers and a true partner. Today SIA Group's lines operate aircraft from our entire product range with the highest level of technical excellence. “There is no better endorsement for our products and we thank SIA for their continued trust, partnership and support,” said Tom Enders, CEO of the Airbus Group, at the aircraft handover ceremony marking the anniversary.

It took the manufacturer 42 years and 5 months to build the 47th aircraft, and the road to this result was not one of roses. Airbus aircraft have been continuously upgraded over time, with each successive model bringing significant benefits in terms of fuel economy, operational reliability and flight comfort. And it all started XNUMX years ago…

Creation of the consortium and the Airbus A300/A310

In 1969, a program was launched to create the world's first twin-engine wide-body aircraft. The history of work is closely connected with the manufacturer, since the European consortium Airbus Industrie was created to build it.
