Is GDI the future?

One of the possibilities to improve the efficiency of the engine is to optimize the process of combustion of the mixture in the cylinders.

One of the directions of improving the efficiency of the internal combustion engine is the work on optimizing the course of the mixture combustion process in the cylinders.

The way to achieve this goal is the precise preparation of the combustible mixture with the use of direct injection of gasoline into the cylinders under high pressure GDI / Gasoline Direct Injection /. The unquestionable advantage of this engine is 20 percent lower fuel consumption.

Lower fuel consumption is achieved by burning a lean mixture. The ignition of such a mixture is possible due to the special shape of the combustion chamber. A zone of a richer, readily ignitable mixture is created near the spark plug, from which the flame spreads to the areas of the lean mixture. When full power is required, the engine burns a stoichiometric mixture.

Compared to conventional engines, GDI engines have another advantage. It is the reduced emission of carbon dioxide and the low concentration of nitrogen oxides during engine operation with partial loads.
