Are the US and Swiss template files interchangeable?

	Even though there are a few differences between American and Swiss pattern files, such as the range of sizes and the way they are described as rough, they are still files and cannot be distinguished at a glance.
	This means that they are generally interchangeable. If you're looking for an American-style flat file for smoothing the edge of a piece of metal, you'll find that a Swiss-style Class 0 flat file will do the job just as well. In fact, it's like using the same file!
	Different types of files can also sometimes be interchanged - the most important thing is that your file fits the space where you need to use it and that you choose the right grit for the job. The "nationality" of the file should not be taken into account when choosing a tool. Cm.: File selection
So what's the difference?
	When it comes down to it, there are very few differences between Swiss and American template files. If you didn't know what type of file you have, it wouldn't affect your ability to use the tool.

Engineer Files: Potential Confusion
	It is possible that you may come across a Swiss template file called an engineering file, although that is an alternative name for an American template file!
	The reason for this is that engineering files are meant to be used for shaping and finishing, no matter where they were made.
	If this happens, don't worry. Chances are you were looking for a file to finish or finish anyway, so just look at the size and roughness of the file and don't care if it's Swiss or American!
