Laws and Permits for Disabled Drivers in Arkansas

The rules for becoming a disabled driver vary by state. Below are some of the qualifications you must have in the state of Arkansas to qualify as a disabled driver.

How do I know if I am eligible for disabled driver status?

If you must carry an oxygen tank with you at all times, or if you have limited mobility due to the loss of the use of your arms and/or arm, you are eligible for a disabled driver's license and/or license plate. If you have been diagnosed with a mobility impairment or have a hearing impairment, you may also be eligible for the program.

How can I get a driver's license and/or a disability permit?

You must apply for a permit or license in person at your local Arkansas DMV.

To obtain a permit or license plate, you must bring the Licensed Physician Certification Form (Form 10-366) to a qualified healthcare professional for them to complete and sign the form. You can submit the form in person to your local Arkansas DMV using the Internet STAR system, or by mail:

Department of Finance and Administration

Department of Motor Transport

PO Box 3153

Little Rock, AR 72203-3153

This information, including the parking permit form, is available online.

How much does a driver's license or disabled permit cost?

Permanent plates in Arkansas are free and expire two years from the last day of the month in which they were issued. Temporary plaques are also free and expire three months from the last day of the month in which they were issued. License plates cost the regular fee, and the validity period is the same as the vehicle's validity period.

Please note that license plates will only be issued after the Arkansas DMV has reviewed and approved your application, confirming that you meet the standards required to qualify for disability status.

How do I renew my license and/or permit?

To renew, you have three options. One option is to fill out Form 10-366 and mail it to

How to properly show my resolution?

Permits must be hung on the rearview mirror or placed on the dashboard. Just make sure the law enforcement officer can see your permission when he or she needs it.

How much time do I have before my permit expires?

Temporary permits expire after six months and permanent permits expire after five years. In addition, a person recognized as disabled is allowed to have one special license plate; one license plate and one permanent plate; or two permanent plaques. A person declared temporarily incapacitated is allowed to have two temporary badges, and both badges must have the same validity period. Note that a temporary plaque cannot be updated, while a permanent plaque can be updated.
