Whether or not you are a driver with a disability, you should be aware of the disability laws in your state. Each state is slightly different in the rules and regulations they have for disabled drivers. Mississippi is no exception.

How do I know if I am eligible for a Mississippi Disability Plate/and/or License Plate?

You may be eligible for a plate or license plate if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Inability to walk 200 feet without taking steps to rest or without assistance.

  • You have arthritis, a neurological or orthopedic condition that limits your mobility.

I feel I am eligible to apply. Now what's the next step?

The next step is to apply for a disabled driver's plate and/or license plate. To do this, complete the Application for Disabled Parking (Form 76-104). Before you submit this form, you must see a doctor who can then confirm that you have a medical condition that qualifies you for disabled parking. Your doctor will sign the form. This doctor may be:

Physician or Paramedic Chiropractor Osteopath Certified Advanced Nurse Orthopedist Ophthalmologist or Optometrist

The next step is to apply in person at the nearest Mississippi DMV or by mail to the address on the form.

Where am I allowed and not allowed to park with a disabled driver sign and/or license plate?

Is there a correct way to show my plate as soon as I receive it?

Yes. You must hang your sign on your rearview mirror whenever your vehicle is parked. If your vehicle does not have a rearview mirror, place a decal on the dashboard with the expiration date facing up and towards the windshield. You must ensure that the law enforcement officer can clearly see your nameplate if he or she needs to.

How do I update my plate and/or license plate?
