Laws and Permits for Disabled Drivers in Nebraska
Content
The state of Nebraska has disabled license plates and signs that allow people with disabilities to use disabled parking spaces. Depending on the nature and duration of your disability, you may be able to obtain a plate or plate from the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. You can apply online, by mail, or in person.
In some states permits are permanent, but in Nebraska they must be renewed.
Types of Disability Permits in Nebraska
Nebraska has several options for obtaining handicapped parking permits. These include:
- Posters about permanent disability that hang on the rearview mirror
- Signs of temporary disability that hang on the rear-view mirror.
- License plates of permanent disability
If you are visiting Nebraska, your license plate or placard will also be valid. Signs and signs allow parking in handicapped spaces. However, you may not park in areas that are labeled "No Parking", which means that parking is prohibited for everyone, disabled or otherwise.
Obtaining a certificate of disability
You can apply for Nebraska residency in one of three ways:
- Personally
- By mail
- Online
If you are applying in person or by mail, you will need an Application for a Handicapped Parking Permit and you will need to include the following:
Your ID (driver's license, passport or other government-issued ID)
A medical certificate signed by your doctor, physician assistant, or licensed nurse practitioner.
The next step is to either deliver your application to the DMV office in your area or mail it to:
Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles
Department of registration of drivers and vehicles

Obtaining a room for the disabled
To obtain a room for the disabled, you must fill out an Application for obtaining rooms for the disabled. This must include a signed medical certificate from your doctor. You will receive a confirmation letter in the mail, and if you have requested a disability badge, you will also receive it in the mail. You must then bring your confirmation letter and vehicle registration fee to your county treasurer's office, after which our license plate will be issued.
Update
Tablets and plates have an expiration date. Temporary plates are valid for three to six months and can be renewed once. Permanent plates must be renewed every six years. The renewal process is the same as for applying and requires the same documents.
Lost permissions
If you lose your plate or sign, you can replace it. You will not need to provide a medical certificate for the first two replacements, but you will need to complete new paperwork if you lose your permit for the third time.
As a disabled person in Nebraska, you are entitled to certain rights and privileges when it comes to parking in disabled spaces. However, there is paperwork so make sure you have your paperwork in order.
