Laws and Permits for Disabled Drivers in Oklahoma

The state of Oklahoma provides license plates and plates under the auspices of the OTC and DPS. If you are a disabled person in Oklahoma, you have the right to use these signs and signs.

Permission types

DPS (Oklahoma Department of Public Safety) issues temporary and permanent disability plates. The OTC (Oklahoma Tax Commission) issues license plates for the disabled and license plates for veterans. These numbers are for disabled parking only and you can use them as driver or passenger. You cannot allow anyone else to use these permissions.

Application

You can request a sign or sign for the disabled by mail. You must have a long-term plate before you can apply for a plate. There is no charge for a plate.

To apply, you will need to complete an Application for Handicapped Parking. It must include certification from your physician, osteopath, podiatrist, optometrist, chiropractor, medical assistant, or registered nurse practitioner and must be completed within the previous 60 days. You must then send it to the Oklahoma Driver Enforcement Department at:

Mailbox 11415

Oklahoma City 73136

You should expect your application to take approximately three weeks to process. After that, you will receive your plate. If you are eligible for a 5 year plaque, you can apply for a plaque. To get your license plate, you will need to fill out an application for a disabled person license plate and pay a fee of three dollars. After you receive your disability license plates, you must still keep your original license plates. They will not be attached to your vehicle - you will store them inside your vehicle.

Veteran's tablets

To obtain an Oklahoma Disabled Veteran License Plate, you must own the vehicle or be the primary driver. You must also be 50% disabled as required by the military and have a long-term disability badge. You must then complete the Application for a Disabled American Veteran License Plate. You will also be required to provide your original reduced royalty card or provide a VA letter proving you are eligible. You can pick up your plates in person and pay a fee of $6.50 or have them mailed for $9.50. You should expect approximately four weeks of turnover from the time you apply and the time you receive your plates.

Update

Disability plates and plaques must be renewed before they expire. Permanent plates are valid for five years. Temporary permits are valid for six months and may be renewed provided your doctor confirms that you are still eligible. The vehicle registration must be renewed separately.

Lost or stolen posters

If you lose your decal or decal, or if it is stolen, you can get a replacement in the mail. Address:

Department of Public Safety

Driver Compliance Division - Physical Disabilities

Mailbox 11415

Oklahoma City 73136

Any replacement will expire at the same time as the original plate is issued. You can only request one replacement at any time.

Disabled drivers in Oklahoma have certain rights and privileges, but these are not automatically granted. You must apply for them.
