Laws and Permits for Disabled Drivers in Tennessee

If you are a disabled driver in Tennessee, you have the right to park in special places and also park in metered places without payment and without time limits.

Permission types

You can get special plates, license plates, and stickers if you are a disabled driver in Tennessee.

  • The plates are available to drivers and passengers with temporary or permanent disabilities.

  • Special license plates are available for drivers with disabilities or hearing impairments.

  • Disabled veterans are also entitled to special license plates.

You are the only person who is authorized to use the sign or sign. You don't have to be a driver - it's enough to be a passenger with a disability.

Journey

If you are visiting Tennessee, you do not need to have a special sign or sign if you are disabled. The State of Tennessee will recognize your home state's nameplate or nameplate and will grant you the same rights and privileges as Tennessee residents.

Application

In Tennessee, you can apply for a plaque or plaque in person or by mail. In either case, you must complete an Application for a License Plate, Plate and/or Disabled Sticker. You must then receive a form signed and authenticated by your doctor, a doctor-related nurse practitioner, or a doctor's assistant. Tennessee differs from many other states in that you can also get certified by a Christian Science practitioner, provided he or she is registered with the Christian Science Journal.

Payment Information

The fee for a temporary sign is $10. The permanent plate fee is $21.50 and you will also receive a special plate if you have a registered vehicle. The license plates alone also cost $21.50. Stickers identifying you as disabled are free.

Disabled Veterans Numbers

If you are a disabled veteran whose disability is 100% related to military service, then you can get a special plate that reads “Veteran with a Disability”. If your disability is not entirely related to your military service, you can still get a disabled veteran's license plate. However, this type of sign will not allow you to use handicapped parking spaces.

Tablets for the hearing impaired

You can get a special plaque if your doctor confirms that you have a hearing disability.

Update

Signs and disability plates expire and need to be renewed.

  • The permanent plaque is valid for two years.
  • The disability certificate is valid for one year.
  • The temporary plaque is valid for six months, but can only be renewed once.

Payment Information

A temporary plaque costs $10 and a permanent one costs $3. You can upgrade your nameplate by requesting a sticker and paying a fee of $21.50.

Lost, stolen or damaged plates

If your license plate is lost, stolen, or damaged to the point where it can no longer be used, you will have to reapply and pay a $2 fee to have it replaced.

As a disabled driver in Tennessee, you are entitled to certain rights and privileges, but you must apply for them and provide relevant documentation. The state will not know that you are disabled unless you yourself tell them about it.
