Laws and Permits for Disabled Drivers in Wyoming

If you live in Wyoming and have a disability, you may be able to obtain special permits that allow you to park in designated areas and enjoy other benefits not normally available to you.

Permission type

Wyoming has several provisions for parking spaces, signage, and handicapped signage. You can apply for:

  • Permanent disability sign
  • List of permanent disability
  • Temporary incapacity plate
  • Disabled Veteran's Plate

To be eligible, you must have a vehicle that is registered in your name.

Visitors

If you are visiting Wyoming, the state will recognize any signs or plates with disabilities from another state. You do not need to apply for a permit or plate in Wyoming. On the other hand, if you are leaving Wyoming to travel elsewhere, then, generally speaking, other states will abide by the provisions to which you are entitled in Wyoming.

Payment Information

The rates are as follows:

  • You can replace your disability plate free of charge.
  • License plates can be purchased at a standard price.

Application

To apply for a Disability Plate or Plate, you must complete an Application for a Disabled Vehicle Identification Plate and mail it to the address below or bring it to the driving test office.

Disabled Veterans Numbers

If you are a disabled veteran, you will need to complete the Military Number Application and provide confirmation from the Veterans Association that at least half of your disability is related to your military service. If you are approved, you will not have to pay any fees.

Update

Temporary plates are valid for six months and can be renewed once by re-applying. Permanent plates are valid for a year and you will be notified by mail before that period expires. Then all you have to do is complete and submit your renewal notice.

If you are a disabled person in Wyoming, you are entitled to certain rights and benefits under state law. Keep in mind, however, that you will not only be given these rights and privileges - you must apply for them and complete the relevant paperwork. Otherwise, they will not be given to you.
