Types of plates and plates

The state of West Virginia offers a variety of parking permits for people with disabilities. These include:

  • Permanent plaques
  • Permanent license plates
  • Temporary signs

Application

Disabled Veterans Numbers

If you are a veteran and are 100% disabled due to military service, you can obtain a special license plate by completing the Disabled Veteran Number Application. You must be certified by the DVA in West Virginia.

Renewals

All permissions expire. A permanent disability plate must be renewed after five years and a temporary plate after six months. License plates must be updated along with your vehicle registration.

Lost or stolen posters

If your plate is lost, stolen, or damaged to the point of being unrecognisable, you must complete the relevant paperwork again, but you will not be required to provide a medical certificate.
