Replacing antifreeze Hyundai Solaris

Replacing antifreeze with a Hyundai Solaris is carried out not only during scheduled maintenance. It may also be necessary when carrying out any repair involving draining the coolant.

Stages of replacing the coolant Hyundai Solaris

When replacing antifreeze in this model, it is necessary to flush the cooling system, since there is no drain plug in the engine block. Without flushing, some of the old fluid will remain in the system, degrading the properties of the new coolant.

Replacing antifreeze Hyundai Solaris

There are several generations of Solaris, they do not have fundamental changes in the cooling system, so the replacement instructions will apply to everyone:

  • Hyundai Solaris 1 (Hyundai Solaris I RBr, Restyling);
  • Hyundai Solaris 2 (Hyundai Solaris II HCr).

The procedure is best done in a garage with a pit so that you can easily get to all places. Without a well, replacement is also possible, but getting there will be more difficult.

Solaris was equipped with 1,6 and 1,4 liter gasoline engines. The volume of antifreeze poured into them is approximately equal to 5,3 liters. The same engines are used in the Kia Rio, where we describe the pitless replacement process.

Draining the coolant

The coolant should be changed on a cold engine so that while it cools there is time to remove the protection. You will also need to remove the plastic shield on the right side as it blocks access to the radiator drain plug.

During this time, the car has cooled down, so we proceed to the drain itself:

  1. On the left side of the radiator we find a drain plug, under this place we put a container or a cut plastic container to collect the old liquid. We unscrew it, sometimes it sticks, so you need to make an effort to tear it off (Fig. 1).Replacing antifreeze Hyundai Solaris
  2. As soon as the liquid begins to drain, there will be little dripping, so we unscrew the plug on the radiator filler neck.
  3. On the opposite side of the radiator we find a thick tube, remove the clamp, tighten and drain (Fig. 2). Thus, part of the liquid will drain from the block; unfortunately, it will not work to drain the rest of the engine, since there is no drain plug.Replacing antifreeze Hyundai Solaris
  4. It remains to empty the expansion tank, for this you can use a rubber bulb or a syringe with a hose attached.

After completing the drainage procedure, do not forget to put everything in its place. Next, we move on to the washing stage.

Flushing the cooling system

To remove the remnants of old antifreeze from the cooling system, we need distilled water. Which must be poured into the radiator, to the top of the neck, as well as into the expansion tank between the minimum and maximum levels.

When the water is filled, close the radiator and reservoir caps. Next, we start the engine, wait for it to warm up, when the thermostat opens, you can turn it off. Signs of an open thermostat and that the water has gone in a big circle is the turning on of the cooling fan.

When heating, it is necessary to monitor the temperature readings so that it does not rise to very high values.

Then turn off the engine and drain the water. Repeat this a few more times until the drained water runs clear.

Drain distilled water, such as antifreeze, into a cold engine. Otherwise, it may get burned. And also with sudden cooling and temperature changes, the head of the block can be deformed.

Filling without air pockets

After flushing, about 1,5 liters of distilled water remains in the Hyundai Solaris cooling system. Therefore, it is recommended to use not ready-made antifreeze, but a concentrate such as a new fluid. With this in mind, it can be diluted to withstand the desired freezing temperature.

Fill in new antifreeze in the same way as distilled water for flushing. The radiator reaches the top of the neck, and the expansion tank to the top bar, where the letter F. After that, install the plugs in their places.

Turn on the ignition and wait until the car engine warms up. You can increase the speed to 3 mils per minute to quickly distribute fluid throughout the system. This will also help remove air if there is an air pocket in the cooling lines.

Then turn off the engine and let it cool down a bit. Now you need to carefully open the filler neck and add the required amount of liquid. Since when heated, it was distributed throughout the system and the level should have decreased.

A few days after the replacement, the level of antifreeze must be checked and topped up if necessary.

Frequency of replacement, which antifreeze to fill

According to the manufacturer's regulations, the first replacement of the Hyundai Solaris must be carried out with a run of no more than 200 thousand kilometers. And with small circulations, the shelf life is 10 years. Other substitutions depend on the fluid used.

According to the recommendation of the car company, genuine Hyundai Long Life Coolant should be used to fill the cooling system. It comes as a concentrate that must be diluted with distilled water.

Replacing antifreeze Hyundai Solaris

The original liquid exists in various forms, in a gray or silver bottle with a green label. It needs to be changed every 2 years. Once it was the only one recommended for replacement. Since then, information has been circulating on the Internet about exactly what to use. But at the moment it is not recommended to use it, since it is created on an outdated silicate basis. But just in case, here are the order codes 07100-00200 (2 sheets), 07100-00400 (4 sheets.)

Now, for replacement, you need to choose antifreeze in a green canister with a yellow label, which is designed for 10 years of operation. At the moment, this will be the best option, as it meets modern requirements. Complies with Hyundai/Kia MS 591-08 specification and belongs to the class of lobrid and phosphate carboxylate (P-OAT) fluids. You can order for these items 07100-00220 (2 sheets), 07100-00420 (4 sheets.).

Leaks and problems

Hyundai Solaris has no special problems with the cooling system. Unless the filler cap needs to be changed periodically. Since sometimes the bypass valve located on it fails. Due to this, increased pressure is created, which sometimes leads to leaks at the joints.

Sometimes users may complain about an increase in engine temperature, this is treated, as it turned out, by flushing the radiator externally. Over time, dirt gets into small cells, disrupting normal heat transfer. As a rule, this already happens on older cars that have had time to ride in various conditions.
