Replacement crankshaft sensor BMW E39

In this post we will talk about how to replace the crankshaft position sensor (DPKV) of the M52 engine. But first things first.

It all started with the fact that in the morning I was driving to work, calmly, as usual, and then, for some unknown reason, the engine stalled on the way, naturally, I pulled over to the side of the road, examined the entire engine compartment, found nothing, started to start the internal combustion engine, but it started up at least and the first time, but with difficulty, continued to work quietly, the car began to blunt on the road, at times there were spasms. Having started work, I connected INPA, and in the engine block (DME) I saw the following error:

The sensor itself is located in front of the vibration damper, roughly speaking, almost under the thermostat (applies to M52 engines, on the M52 TU the sensor is located below the starter).

There are no problems with replacing the sensor, everything can be done without a hole, in an hour or two. To make it easier to remove, I removed the fan shroud and the fan itself. To do this, you need to remove two plastic rivets along the edges of the casing and with a key for 32 by the impact method clockwise! Unscrew the fan and dock it with the fan.

We unscrew the only screw that holds the sensor using a hexagon. Next, remove the cable box, breaking two retaining rings, we go, as it were, along the “wire” of the sensor.

The sensor connector is located under the intake manifold:

We disconnect the connector, pull it towards ourselves, disconnect the hydraulic drive tube from the VANOS system drive unit, since there is not enough distance to push the sensor connector:

The sensor can harden in its landing case, so we snap it off and pull it out. Here is our patient:

Reverse installation! All work is carried out carefully and slowly.

TIS offers sensor replacement without removing the cover or fan.

Since there was no time to wait for a new sensor (I’m going on a long car trip), I called a friend to take it apart, he didn’t have this, but found another friend’s sensor that he was repairing. BMW, and since this person expected me to work together on the electrical part, he delivered it to me in offset, original, working and tested. I did not have time to stop in front of the road and immediately put it on.

As for a long trip, I go to the sea with my family, first by car, and then on a transfer to another country. Therefore, from the first day I will be offline for 7-10 days, who needs help and advice, sorry, I will not be available, I will answer everyone upon arrival)
