Replacing the speed sensor on the VAZ-2112
Content
If the speedometer or odometer on your car's dashboard has stopped working, and the car's speed needle shows just ridiculous numbers, then your car's speed sensor has failed. It will not be difficult to replace this device even for those who have never encountered such a problem, since repairs are available even with their own hands, below we will describe in detail how to do this.
The principle of operation of the speed sensor
The speed sensor is located in the gearbox (here what kind of oil to fill in the gearbox) and is designed to collect information from the gearbox about the number of revolutions transmitted to the drive wheels, then convert them into an electronic signal and send them to the computer (electronic control unit - approx. ).
Depending on the year of manufacture of the car, different types of sensors are mounted on the control post. Until 2006, the previous modification was located in the form of a thrust with a gear, and later models were equipped with a fully electronic device.
Which sensor should you choose?
If the replacement of the sensor is not associated with its contamination or breakage of the pads on the wires, then it is necessary to replace it according to the manufacturer's articles:
- Old mechanical type 2110-3843010F. Old style speed sensor
- New electronic type 2170-3843010. New type speed sensor
When choosing an old type sensor, pay attention to its composition. Plastic models are not durable and can cause even more damage if broken inside the gearbox.
Major faults
Among the obvious malfunctions of the speed sensor on the VAZ-2112, obvious ones can be distinguished:
- Incorrect and inconsistent speedometer or odometer readings.
- Unstable engine idling.
- On-board computer errors (P0500 and P0503).
Speed sensor diagnostics
Diagnosing a mechanically driven device is easy. Just connect the power cable to the removed sensor and turn its gear. If the sensor works, the speedometer needle will change position.
Diagnosing an electronic analogue is also not difficult. Simply touch one metal end to the center pin of the connector and the other to the motor housing. With a good sensor, the arrow will start to move.
Replacement procedure
To make a replacement, no skills are required, just follow our instructions.
On older models
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- On older models, it is located on top of the gearbox, we get it from the throttle side.
- If the clamps are in the way, loosen them.
- Squeeze out the mounting brackets from the block.
- Using the key on “17”, we unscrew it. The old-style speed sensor is in place.
- Then unscrew the drive nut.
- Install the new sensor in the same order as when removing it. The sensor is removed.
Tighten the sensor carefully, strictly in a clockwise direction.
On new models
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- We also loosen the corrugation clamps, if they interfere and put them aside.
- Power off the sensor.
- Using the “10” wrench, unscrew the fastening bolt. Seat speed sensor
- With the help of small hairs, remove from the place of fixation.
- We put a new sensor and connect everything in the same order as disassembly.
Checking all elements for functionality
After doing this work, any problems related to the sensors on the instrument panel should go away. If it remains, then you should pay close attention to the condition of the wiring of all contacts and connections.
