Replacing wipers with your own hands - how to do it?

Interestingly, there is a large discrepancy between the recommended and the actual replacement of the windshield wipers in the car. In Polish conditions, where significant temperature fluctuations are observed throughout the year, rubber degrades faster. Therefore, it would be optimal to change every year. Drivers, on the other hand, seem to wait until the last minute. It is reasonable? See if you can change the wipers without anyone's help!

Replacing wipers - where to start?

Since you're sure the wipers need to be replaced, start by choosing the right models. It's all about the type. Distinguish wipers:

  • flat;
  • skeletal;
  • hybrid.

You also need to correctly fit the size to the car model and window profile. To do this correctly and not return the purchased product, refer to the manufacturer's catalog. It will show you which blade lengths are recommended for your vehicle.

How to replace windshield wiper blades, or can I do it myself?

Installing new wiper blades will not be a problem for you. You do not need to have any special experience. Most manufacturers add adapters to most of the mounting brackets used by manufacturers. In addition, on the packaging you will find detailed instructions that will allow you to replace the old element with a new one in a few steps. However, if you want to get more knowledge right now, take a look at the tips we give below.

How to replace car windshield wiper blades?

If you are dealing with older type elements, you can easily replace the wipers. Here are the next steps:

  • you need to bend your hand from the glass and turn the feathers over. This will make it easier for you to find a place where you need to install the blade and frame;
  • a latch is hidden there, on which you should lightly press and push out the pen;
  • then you need to install the appropriate adapter in the designated place;
  • then insert the new element and press firmly upwards.

Correct installation will be confirmed with a mouse click.

Car wiper rubber replacement

This is a slightly more complex process. Of course, this can be done, although such a procedure does not always guarantee 100% water removal efficiency. If you only have rubber, replacing the wiper will require removing the caps from the ends of the arm. You will also need to bend back any tabs holding the rubber. Then you just need to push and paste the new element and then pin it.

Replacement of hingeless wipers in a car

Hingeless wipers, like traditional wipers, are easy to put on. You can do it yourself:

  • you need to disconnect the leaves holding the handle on your hand from the adapter and move it down with a decisive movement;
  • be careful that your hand does not fall on the glass, otherwise it could lead to disaster;
  • in the next step, install the adapter on the new wiper and put it together with it from below on the lever.

Try to do this evenly so that the hook on both sides snaps into place in your hand. As you can see, the replacement is not at all difficult.

Car rear wiper replacement

On many vehicles, the rear wiper arm is secured with a nut. In order for the replacement of the wipers to go according to plan, you will need a wrench and, of course, a new brush. The problem is that the pin on which the hand is put on is shaped like a cone. Therefore, for very rusty parts, a puller will be required. As soon as you get rid of the old part, put on the new lever accurately and do not forget to secure the nut with a washer. Ready!

Replacing the car windshield wiper mechanism

There is some more work for you here. You have to lift the hood and get to the pit of your car. There you will find the whole mechanism that allows the wipers to work. Its replacement is often necessary after the wiper motor burns out. The cause may be water in clogged drains. So, how to replace the mechanism? Here are the next steps:

  • first you need to dismantle the wiper arms, which are fixed on the conical pins;
  • then dismantle the entire mechanism with the motor.

Remember that the installation of wipers cannot do without a preliminary fight against moisture. Eliminate this problem, because it is moisture that is to blame for engine failure.

What is the most important thing when replacing wipers? Be careful and do not forget to attach the feathers well. If you do not do this thoroughly, then during operation they will fall out. You should of course choose the same size wipers you had before. When you change hands entirely, put them back in their original position so they don't interfere with your view through the glass.
