Replacing the filter on Kia Sid

The front-wheel drive car Kia Ceed (segment C according to the European classification) has been produced by Kia Motors Corporation (South Korea) for more than 15 years. The simplicity of the design allows its owners to independently carry out simple maintenance and repair work. One of these operations, which almost all owners of this car face, is the replacement of the Kia Sid fuel filter.

Where is the Kia Ceed

The fuel supply to the engine of any Kia Ceed model is provided by a structurally complete pump module located inside the gas tank. It is in it that the submersible electric pump and filter elements are located.

Device and purpose

Cleaning automotive fuel from harmful impurities is a function that filter elements must perform. The reliable operation of the motor during operation largely depends on how carefully they cope with their task.

Any type of fuel, be it gasoline or diesel, is contaminated with harmful impurities. In addition, during transportation to the destination, debris (chips, sand, dust, etc.) can also get into the fuel, which can disrupt its normal operation. Purifying filters are designed to counteract this.

Structurally, the filter consists of 2 parts, installed:

  • directly on the fuel pump - a mesh that protects the engine from getting into the cylinders of large debris;
  • At the inlet of the fuel line there is a filter that purifies the fuel from small harmful impurities.

Working together, these elements improve fuel quality, but only when they are in good condition. Replacing the fuel filter "Kia Sid" 2013, like all other cars of this model range, should also consist of two operations.

Life time

Inexperienced drivers mistakenly believe that the factory fuel filter is designed for the entire period of operation of the car. However, this is far from the case - even in the list of routine maintenance of the Kia Sid car, the frequency of its replacement is indicated. The fuel filter elements must be replaced no later than after:

  • 60 thousand km - for gasoline engines;
  • 30 thousand ka - for diesel engines.

In practice, these data can be significantly reduced, especially if we take into account the low quality of domestic fuel.

Replacing the filter on Kia Sid

In cars of previous years of production, the fuel filter was located in easily accessible places (under the hood or in the bottom of the car). At the same time, drivers could determine its condition with a high degree of certainty and decide on the need to replace it. In models of recent years, the filter element is located inside the gas tank, and in order to determine whether it is time to change it or not, the driver must constantly monitor how his car behaves.

Interestingly, for example, replacing a Kia Seed 2008 fuel filter is no different from replacing a Kia Сeed JD fuel filter (restyled models produced since 2009).

Signs of clogging

Possible clogging of the filter is indicated by:

  • noticeable loss of power;
  • uneven fuel supply;
  • "troika" in the engine cylinders;
  • the engine stops for no apparent reason;
  • increase in fuel consumption.

These signs do not always indicate the need for replacement. But if after this operation the violations in the operation of the engine did not disappear, then a visit to the service station is indispensable.

Choosing a filter for "Kia Sid"

When choosing filter elements for Kia Ceed cars, motorists are better off using branded parts. However, car owners do not always have the opportunity to buy the original, partly because of its high cost, and sometimes simply because of the lack of it in the nearest car dealerships.

Replacing the filter on Kia Sid

Original

All Kia Ceed vehicles are equipped with a fuel filter with part number 319102H000. It is specially designed for the pump module of this model. Genuine filter is supplied by Hyundai Motor Company or Kia Motors Corporation.

Additionally, the owner of a Kia Ceed may come across a fuel filter with catalog number S319102H000. Used for post-warranty service. This is evidenced by the index S in its designation.

When replacing the filter, it will be useful to change the grid. This branded part is part number 3109007000 or S3109007000.

Analogues

In addition to the original filters, the owner of Kia Ceed can buy one of the analogues, the price of which is much lower. For example, good performance indicators are:

  • Joel YFHY036;
  • Jakoparts J1330522;
  • INTERKARS B303330EM;
  • Nipparts N1330523.

Branded mesh can be replaced with cheaper analogues, for example, Krauf KR1029F or Patron PF3932.

Replacing the fuel filter "Kia Sid" 2008 and other models

In the process of servicing this car, this is one of the simplest operations. In this case, for example, replacing the Kia Sid 2011 fuel filter completely repeats the procedure for replacing the Kia Sid JD fuel filter.

Special care must be taken when handling fuel. Therefore, when working with the pump module, the vehicle must be in a well-ventilated area. In addition, a fire extinguisher and other fire fighting equipment should be located in the immediate vicinity of the workplace.

Tools

When starting to replace the 2010 Kia Sid fuel filters or other models manufactured by Kia Motors Corporation (Rio, Sorento, Cerato, Sportage, etc.), you must first prepare:

  • new fine filter;
  • new screen for coarse filtering (if necessary);
  • screwdrivers (cross and flat);
  • headdress;
  • Silicone Grease;
  • a small container for draining fuel residues from the pump;
  • aerosol cleaner

A rag will also help, with which it will be possible to wipe the surfaces of parts from accumulated dirt.

Before starting work, you need to take care of the presence of a fire extinguisher, goggles and rubber gloves. This will reduce the likelihood of injury (burns, fuel on the hands and mucous membranes of the eyes). Also do not forget to remove the terminals from the battery.

Dismantling the pump module

Before getting to the filter elements, it is necessary to remove the pump module from the tank and disassemble it. It is not difficult to carry out all operations related to replacing the Kia Sid 2013 fuel filter; however, if you do not have enough experience to perform such work, it is better to use the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Remove the back seat. Under the mat is a cover that blocks access to the pump module.
  2. The cover is fixed with 4 screws, they need to be unscrewed.
  3. Remove the cover and disconnect the fuel pump connector. It is fixed with a latch that will need to be pressed.
  4. Start the engine and let it idle. This will reduce the pressure in the fuel supply line. As soon as the engine stalls, work can continue.
  5. Unblock and remove fuel lines. To do this, lift the latch up and press the latches. When removing the fuel lines, be careful: fuel may leak from the hoses.
  6. Loosen the 8 screws around the pump module and carefully pull it out. At the same time, hold it so that gasoline flows into the gas tank, and not into the passenger compartment. Be careful not to touch the float and level sensor. Drain the remaining fuel in the module into a prepared container.
  7. Lay the module on a table and disconnect the existing connectors.
  8. Remove check valve. It is located directly above the filter, to remove it you need to release two latches. The o-ring must remain on the valve.
  9. Release the 3 plastic latches to release the bottom of the box.
  10. Carefully loosening the latch, remove the top cover and disconnect the tube secured by the latches. Make sure the o-ring is not lost. If it is damaged, it will have to be replaced with a new one.
  11. Remove the used filter by disconnecting the corrugated hose. Carefully insert the new item into the empty space.
  12. Thoroughly clean the coarse mesh or replace it with a new one.

Assemble the pump module in reverse order. When installing parts in their places, do not forget to remove dirt from them. Apply silicone grease to all rubber gaskets.

Replacing the fuel filter Kia Sid 2014-2018 (2nd generation) and the 3rd generation model, which are still in production, is carried out according to the same algorithm.

Installing the pump module

After assembling the pump module, check for "extra" parts. After making sure that all the parts are in place and secured, carefully lower the module into the gas tank. Note that the slots on the fuel tank and pump module cover must be aligned. Then, pressing the cover of the latter, fix the module with standard fasteners (8 bolts).

Price

By replacing the filters with your own hands, you will only have to spend money on consumables:

  • 1200-1400 rubles for the original fuel filter and 300-900 rubles for its analogue;
  • 370-400 rubles for a brand and 250-300 rubles for a non-original mesh for cleaning coarse fuel.

The cost of spare parts in different regions may vary slightly.

Possible problems

The following manipulations will help to avoid problems associated with the supply of fuel to the car engine upon completion of work on the pump module:

1. Turn on the ignition and crank the starter for a few seconds.

3. Switch off the ignition.

4. Start the engine.

If, after performing these steps, the engine still does not start or does not start immediately, then the reason is usually related to the O-ring remaining on the old filter.

In this case, the operations listed in the previous section will have to be repeated again, putting the forgotten part in its place. Otherwise, the pumped fuel will continue to flow out, and the performance of the fuel pump will drop sharply, preventing the engine from running normally.
