Replacing the Niva generator with your own hands

The instructions below will help those Niva owners who decide to remove the generator for repair or for a complete replacement. Usually, it is not necessary to completely change the device so often, since most of its components are sold in stores, the same rotor, stator or diode bridge. All these spare parts can be replaced with new ones if one of them fails. If, nevertheless, it is decided to install a completely new generator, then again, the instructions described below will help you with this.

In order to do this quickly and conveniently, you will need the following tools:

• Socket heads for 10, 17 and 19
• Open-end wrenches or spanners for 17 and 19
• Ratchet handles
• Extension bar and gimbal

Before proceeding with this procedure, be sure to disconnect the negative lead from the battery terminal. Then, with a head of 10, unscrew the fastening of the positive wire to the generator, as shown in the photo below:

Also, you should immediately disconnect the rest of the wires:

Then you need to unscrew the belt tensioner nut. To do this quickly and conveniently, use the universal joint and ratchet with extension:

After that, you can remove the belt, as it is loosened, by moving the generator to the side. Then you can start unscrewing the bottom bolt. To do this, first remove the crankcase protection:

If the bolt cannot be removed by hand after the nut has been unscrewed, you can gently knock it out with a hammer, preferably through a wooden block:

When the bolt is almost knocked out, support the generator so that it does not fall down:

If the device needs to be replaced, we buy a new one for our Niva and install it in the reverse order. The price of a new part, depending on the manufacturer, can vary from 2 to 000 rubles.
