Replacing the timing on the engine 1mz

  1. To carry out work, it is necessary to remove the upper suspension arm. Disconnect cables from cruise control.

For the manufacture of the extractor, a pipe segment with an outer diameter of 90 mm and a length of 50 mm is required, as well as a segment of a steel strip 30 × 5 mm about 700 mm long, two M8 x 60 screws.

  5. The desired bolt is tightened very tightly with thread sealant, even an impact wrench with a force of up to 800 Nm is unlikely to help. Options such as a loose pulley with a starter or a blocked flywheel can lead to problems and the need to disassemble the engine. For this, a special tool from Toyota is usually used to prevent slippage of the crankshaft pulley, but if it is not available, you can make a similar tool with your own hands.   6. Using the manufactured tool, unscrew the crankshaft pulley.

  7. After unscrewing the pulley nuts, the pulley itself is unscrewed, again, everything is not so simple, it is unlikely to work with your hands. Do not try to hit the pulley with a hammer or pry it; pulley material is very brittle. With the help of an extractor, you can remove the current from the pulley or chop off its edges, so the tool will have to be slightly modernized, making a full-fledged extractor out of a device for holding the pulley. For termination, a steel strip 30 × 5 mm and 90 mm long is required. Nut and screw M10 x 70 mm. The nut is welded to the strip.

  8. We remove the pulley from the seat.

  15. Removed the anther from the belt tensioner and measured the reach of the rod. There should be a distance of 10 to 10,8 mm from the tensioner housing to the end of the link. The tensioner must be driven in by sinking the stem. This will require serious efforts, at least 100 kg. This can be done in a vice, but when cocked, the turnbuckle must be in the "rod up" position. Therefore, we slowly push the stem until the holes of the stem and the body coincide, and fix it by inserting a suitable hex key into the hole. Then remove the camshaft sprockets. You will need a special tool to keep the sprockets from spinning, but this can be done with an old timing belt and a suitable piece of wood. To do this, the belt is screwed to the board with self-tapping screws, and the board is cut from the end with a bow to fit the radius of the sprocket.

  16. Drain the coolant.
  17. We unscrew the fasteners on the water pump and remove it from the seat.
  18. Clear the block at the bomb site. We install the gasket and the important pump itself.
  19. Roller change.

  1. It is recommended to first remove the minute terminal from the battery.
  2. Drain engine oil.

  4. Remove the air filter housing along with the air duct.
  5. Remove the alternator belt.

  6. We put emphasis on the engine so that it does not fall off and remove the right bracket.
  7. Next, you need to remove the generator and take the connecting cables to the side.
  8. Remove the right brake fluid reservoir.

  11. Remove the valve cover.
