Oil change in the Niva rear axle gearbox
We have to hear quite often from many Niva owners that after buying, even after more than 100 km, they simply do not change the oil in the bridge, although according to the regulations this must be done at least once every 000 km. You should not look at such drivers, because over time, the lubricant loses its properties and after a certain resource has been worked out, increased wear of the gearbox parts begins.
So, this procedure can be carried out without a pit or a lift, since the Niva is a fairly tall car and you can crawl under the bottom without any problems. If you want more space, it is better to raise the rear of the car a little with a jack. To do this work, we need a tool such as:
- Socket head 17 + ratchet or wrench
- 12mm hexagon
- Watering can with hose or special syringe
- Well, the actual canister of new transmission oil (of course, this does not apply to the tool)
The order of work will be as follows. First, unscrew the drain plug from the bridge, for which you need a hexagon.
Of course, you must first substitute a container for draining the used oil:
After a few minutes have passed and all the glass has been worked into the container, you can screw the plug back. Then you need to unscrew the filler plug, which is located at the central rear of the bridge:
Next, we take a watering can with a hose, which must first be connected into a single whole and inserted into the hole, as shown in the photo below, and fill in new oil:
It is necessary to fill in until the oil flows out of the hole, this indicates that the optimum level in the rear axle gearbox has been reached. Then we screw the plug into place and you can not worry about this procedure for another 75 km.
