How often do you need to change the oil?

To begin with, let's analyze at what mileage car owners change the lubricant and filter for Mitsubishi Outlander 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. The official instruction manual does not indicate when and how often the transmission fluid should be changed. Replacement of consumable fluid by the manufacturer is not provided, it is poured into the car for the entire life of the vehicle. But this does not mean that the lubricant does not need to be changed.

The change of the substance must be carried out when the following signs appear:

  • when driving on smooth asphalt, slippage periodically appears;
  • in the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe transmission selector in the cabin, vibrations can be felt that occur periodically or constantly;
  • sounds uncharacteristic for the transmission began to be heard: rattling, noise;
  • having difficulty shifting the gear lever.

Such signs can manifest themselves differently on different cars, it all depends on the conditions and proper operation of the transmission. On average, the need to replace the fluid for car owners occurs after 100-150 thousand kilometers. To avoid problems in the operation of the transmission, experts recommend replacing consumables every 90 thousand kilometers.

Choice of oil

Original Outlander variator for Outlander

Mitsubishi Outlander should only be filled with original product. DIA QUEEN CVTF-J1 grease was developed specifically for CVTs of these vehicles. It is designed to work with the JF011FE gearboxes found on the Outlander. The manufacturer does not recommend the use of other oils.

Although many car owners successfully fill their Motul automotive fluids into gearboxes. According to the automaker, the use of non-original and low-quality oils can lead to transmission failure and complicate the maintenance or repair of the unit.

Level control and required volume

To check the lubrication level in the gearbox, use the dipstick located on the gearbox. The location of the counter is shown in the photo. To diagnose the level, start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. The oil will become less viscous and the inspection procedure will be accurate. Remove the dipstick from the variator. It has two marks: HOT and COLD. On a warm engine, the lubricant should be at the HOT level.

How to change the oil yourself?

Replacing the lubricant is a relatively simple procedure. To do this, you can save on gas stations and do everything yourself.

Tools and materials

Before replacing, prepare:

  • keys for 10 and 19, it is recommended to use box keys;
  • new oil for filling the variator will need about 12 liters;
  • sealant for installation on a pallet;
  • a new washer to install on the sump plug if the old part is worn or damaged;
  • pan cleaner to remove wear products, you can use ordinary acetone or a special liquid;
  • funnel;
  • clerical knife or Phillips screwdriver;
  • a container where you will drain the old fat.

The Works Garage channel provided an instruction manual that details the process of changing the lubricant in the CVT.

Step by step guide

The oil change in the Mitsubishi Outlander CVT is as follows:

  1. The car engine heats up to 70 degrees, for this you can drive a car. The hotter the grease, the more it will come out of the gearbox.
  2. The car is driven into a pit or overpass.
  3. Climb under the bottom of the car and find the crankcase protection, it needs to be dismantled. To remove, unscrew the two screws on the front panel. The remaining bolts are unscrewed, after which the protection is pushed forward and disassembled.
  4. Once removed, you will see the actuator drain plug. It is necessary to install a watering can on your site, use ties or wire to fix it. After fixing the shower head, unscrew the drain plug. You must first replace the container in order to collect the "work" under it.
  5. Wait until all the grease has come out of the Mitsubishi Outlander CVT. Drainage usually takes at least 30 minutes. In total, about six liters of lubricant will come out of the system.
  6. Screw the drain plug back in. If there is a second watering can, install it in the hole for diagnosing the lubrication level. Remove the dipstick and check exactly how much fluid came out of the system when draining, the same amount should be filled.
  7. Start the car engine and wait a few minutes for it to warm up. With the engine running, switch the gear selector to all modes in turn. In each of them, the lever must be held for half a minute. This process must be repeated several times.
  8. Stop the engine and perform the grease drain procedure again. About six liters of fluid should come out of the system.
  9. Loosen the screws holding the tray. When disassembling, be careful, there is oil in the pan. In the presence of dirt and wear products, the pan is washed with acetone or a special liquid. Don't forget to clean the magnets.
  10. Remove the old consumable cleaning filter.
  11. Remove the remnants of the old sealant from the pallet with a clerical knife. Once disassembled, chewing gum cannot be reused. The new gasket must be fixed to the sealant.
  12. Install a new filter device, magnets and put the tray in place, securing everything with bolts. Screw in the drain plug.
  13. Fill the gearbox with new oil. Its volume should correspond to the amount of previously drained fluid.
  14. Start the power unit. Perform manipulations with the gear lever.
  15. Check the lubricant level with a dipstick. Add oil to the gearbox if necessary.

Price issue

A four-liter canister of the original liquid costs an average of about 3500 rubles. For a complete change of substance, 12 liters are required. Therefore, the replacement procedure will cost the consumer an average of 10 rubles. From 500 to 2 thousand rubles can be ordered at the service station for service if you decide to entrust the replacement to specialists.

Consequences of untimely replacement

If a poor quality lubricant is used in the CVT gearbox, it will not be able to perform its functions. As a result, friction in the internal parts of the transmission will increase, leading to premature wear of the transmission components. Because of this, wear products will clog the channels of the lubrication system. Difficulties will arise when changing different modes of the gearbox, the box will start to work with jerks and jerks.

The most unfortunate consequence of an untimely lubricant change is the complete failure of the assembly.
