Replacing the ignition module with a VAZ 2110-2111

One of the reasons for engine interruptions may be the failure of the ignition module, or as it is also called the “ignition coil” in the old fashioned way. On VAZ 2110 vehicles, depending on the installed engine, the module is attached to the bracket either with bolts for a regular key or for a hexagon. This example will show the replacement procedure with hex studs. And to be even more precise, for this manual, a VAZ 21114 engine with a volume of 1,6 liters was used.

As for the tool, in this case the following list was needed, which is presented below:

1. 5 hexagon or equivalent ratchet bit
2. 10 open-end wrench or box wrench to disconnect the terminal from the battery

Now, below, we will consider in more detail the procedure for removing and then installing the ignition module from a VAZ 2110 car with an 8-valve engine. So, to begin with, we disconnect the “minus” terminal from the battery so that there are no unnecessary problems with a short circuit.

After that, we disconnect the high-voltage spark plug wires from the device itself, as clearly demonstrated below:

Next, you need to remove the power plug from the module, first pulling the retainer up a little and pulling the wire to the side. Everything is shown schematically in the picture:

Also, it is worth freeing the plug from knock sensor, having previously pressed on the clamp-clip so that it does not interfere in the future:

Now it remains to unscrew the 4 studs that secure the ignition module to its bracket. I want to say that many manuals call for a complete removal with a bracket, since there are only two bolts. But it is worth noting the fact that unscrewing the bracket is not very convenient, and in the presence of a ratchet and a hexagonal bit, the module is removed in a minute:

When unscrewing the last pin or bolt, hold the part to prevent it from falling. If a malfunction is detected, you need to buy a new module, the price of which for a VAZ 2110-2111 is about 1500-1800 rubles, so in case of replacement, you will have to fork out a little. Installation is carried out in reverse order using a similar tool.
