Replacing the tips of the steering rods on the VAZ 2114-2115
Steering tips have to be changed quite often, and as for VAZ 2114-2115 cars, you can do this repair yourself even at home. Of course, all this cannot be done with bare hands, since you will need a certain tool and equipment. Below is a detailed list of everything you need:
- open-end and ring wrenches for 19 and 27
- special puller for ball joints and steering tips
- pliers
So, since all the parts of the undercarriage of the VAZ 2114-2115 car get pretty quickly and heavily contaminated, first, before starting this procedure, apply penetrating grease to all threaded connections. When a few minutes have passed, you can proceed directly to the implementation of this repair.
The first step is to rip off the front wheel bolts, raise the car with a jack and finally remove the wheel from the car. It is advisable that the car is on the handbrake so that there are no unpleasant moments ...
First of all, we take out the cotter pin of the nut securing the finger to the steering knuckle using pliers, as shown in the photo below:
Then you can unscrew this very nut.
After that, we take our special puller and insert it in the way it looks like in the picture:
As you can see, it is necessary to unscrew the puller bolt until the tip pops out of its seat in the rack, and then you can remove it from there by hand:
Now we take the key for 27 and try to loosen the nut that secures the tip to the steering rod.
It often happens that the tip begins to turn away together with the sleeve, as over time it sticks to it strongly. In this case, we remove the entire structure as a whole, and then, with the help of a vice and our efforts, we will have to separate the whole thing.
If everything goes without any particular difficulties, then the tip is unscrewed clockwise, after which it is removed:
When unscrewing the tips, be sure to count the number of turns made, so that later, when installing, approximately maintain the toe-in of the front wheels of the car. Replacement is carried out in reverse order. The price of new tips for the VAZ 2114-2115 is about 700 rubles for a pair of high-quality parts. Of course, you can buy cheaper options, but how long they will go is unknown.
