Replacing the front struts, springs and bearings with bearings on the VAZ 2110
Content
If, when the car is moving, knocks are heard from the work of the suspension, and you are sure that the reason for this is worn-out shock absorber struts, then they must be replaced. Since you will have to completely remove the entire VAZ 2110 front suspension module, the best option would be a complete check of all components and elements, including supports, thrust bearings, and springs. If problems are found as a result of the diagnostics, then the necessary parts must be replaced.
You can perform this repair yourself in a garage, spending no more than 3-4 hours of time on work, but it should be borne in mind that you will need a certain tool, which you simply cannot do without in this case.
List of necessary tools for repairing the front suspension of the VAZ 2110
- Spanner keys for 17, 19 and 22
- Socket head for 13, 17 and 19
- Open-end wrench 9
- Pry bar
- Hammer
- Spring ties
- Jack
- Balloon wrench
- Winches and ratchet handles
Video instructions for replacing the front suspension
The video is available and embedded from my channel, and was filmed using the example of a dozen that I had at one time for analysis.
The progress of work on the replacement of struts, supports, support bearings and springs on the VAZ 2110
First, you need to open the hood of the car and slightly unscrew the nut securing the support to the rack, while you need to hold the stem with a 9 key so that it does not spin:
After that, we remove the front wheel of the car, having previously lifted the front part of the VAZ 2110 with a jack. Next, you need to apply a penetrating lubricant to the nuts securing the front drain to the steering knuckle. After that, unscrew the nut securing the steering tip to the pivot arm of the rack, and using a hammer and a pry bar, remove the finger from the lever:
Then you can proceed further and unscrew the two nuts securing the rack from below, as clearly shown in the photo:
Now we move the front suspension module to the side so that it is free from the steering knuckle, and then we unscrew the mount of the support to the glass of the body:
When you unscrew the last bolt, you must hold the stand from the inside so that it does not fall. And now you can remove the assembled module, which will result in the following picture:
Next, we need spring ties to disassemble this element. Pulling the springs to the required level, unscrew to the end the nut securing the support to the rack and remove the support:
The result is shown below:
Also, we take out the support bearing with a cup and an elastic band:
Then you need to remove the bump stop and boot. When the disassembly has been completed, you can proceed to the reverse process. Having determined which parts of the VAZ 2110 suspension need to be replaced, we buy new ones and install them in the reverse order.
First, we put together a support, a support bearing and a cup with an elastic band:
We put a new spring on the rack, having previously pulled it to the desired moment and put on the support from above. If the tightening is sufficient, then the stem should protrude outward so that the nut can be tightened:
Also, it should be borne in mind that the coils of the spring should sit well both at the bottom of the rack and at the top to adhere to the elastic so that there are no distortions. When everything is done, you can finally tighten the nut and this is how the assembled module looks like:
Now we install this whole structure on the car in the reverse order. Here, you may have to make a little effort to get to the junction of the strut with the steering knuckle, but in general, there should not be any particular problems.
After replacing the springs, struts, support bearings and supports, it is necessary to contact the service station and perform a similar collapse.
