Replacing the bearing in the front hub of the Kia Rio

Replacing the bearing in the front hub of the Kia Rio

Despite the high reliability of all the main components of the Kia Rio, with a high mileage of the car, some of them fail. One of these items is the wheel bearing of the Kia Rio.

Bearing failure occurs during aggressive driving or due to a large distance traveled. You can replace this element yourself and in a certified service center.

Signs of failure

Kia Rio front hub bearing replacement may be required in the following cases:

  1. Node expiration date.
  2. Periodic overloads of axial or radial nature.
  3. Destruction of the separator.
  4. Raceway or ball wear.
  5. The ingress of dirt and moisture into the assembly.
  6. Drying of the lubricant and, as a result, overheating of the bearing.
  7. Use of poor quality bearings.

Typical signs of wheel bearing failure are:

  • strange sounds from the side of the wheels when accelerating along the highway;
  • strange sounds when turning to the side;
  • rumble and rumble in the support zone.

You can diagnose the condition of the hub roller bearing using the following algorithm:

  1. Jack up the vehicle.
  2. Rock the chassis of the car with your hands, listening to the sounds.
  3. Wheel movement in the axial direction. If the wheel has a free play of more than 0,5 mm, the rolling bearing is loose.

The device and location of the bearing in different generations of Kia Rio

On a Kia Rio car of the second and third generation, the wheel bearing is pressed into a fist. When disassembling the steering knuckle, you should contact a specialized service center for a wheel alignment correction procedure.

In Rio cars of the first generation, instead of a rolling bearing in the fist, as in later versions of the car, there are two similar elements in the spacer and a bushing between them.

In the case of the first generation, two angular contact ball bearings must be replaced in the front wheel hub at the same time.

Algorithm for replacing a wheel bearing in a Kia Rio

Replacing the front bearings without disturbing the balance of the wheel alignment of the car can be done in two ways:

  • with replacement of the roller bearing without dismantling the neck;
  • change of elements in a completely disassembled rack.

To carry out repair work with your own hands, you must purchase the following tool:

  • a set of several keys or heads;
  • mandrel or head twenty-seven to remove the faulty element;
  • a hammer;
  • vise for fixing the shelf;
  • special bearing puller;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • machine oil;
  • rags;
  • liquid VD-40;
  • wrench.

Removing the destroyed node on the Kia Rio

Replacing the bearing in the front hub of the Kia Rio

Replacing the front wheel bearing Kia Rio 3 is carried out according to the following scenario:

  1. Remove wheel bolts.
  2. Loose front hub.
  3. Raise the front wheels with a jack.
  4. Remove the wheels and break off the hub nut.
  5. Turn away bolts of fastening of tips of steering draughts.
  6. Tip extrusion.
  7. Remove the brake hose bolt.
  8. Removing the two caliper mounting bolts. Mounts are located behind the caliper.
  9. Unscrewing the cuff from the staple and zipper.
  10. Raising the fist and removing it from the patella.
  11. Pulling the bolts and disassembling the drive shaft.
  12. Remove the Phillips screws.
  13. Remove brake disc
  14. Impact on the inner ring of the bearing.
  15. Removing the retaining ring.
  16. Extraction of the outer clip with an extractor with a diameter of about 68 millimeters.
  17. Remove the ring from the fist with a hammer.

After completing all these steps, the disassembly of the worn element can be considered complete, and you can proceed to install a maintainable roller bearing.

Installing a serviceable hub element

After removing the hub and removing the defective element, do the following:

  1. Clean and lubricate the roller bearing seat with machine oil.
  2. Perform pressing. This can be done in two ways: without hitting the extractor and hitting the cartridge.
  3. Install the retaining ring in the appropriate groove.
  4. Removing the inner ring of the bushing. This can be done by cutting the clip with a narrow grinder, and then tapping on the part with a hammer.
  5. Lubrication of the bushing seat ring.
  6. Press the roller bearing into the hub using a puller.
  7. Assembling the brake disc on the hub and knuckle.
  8. Installation of the resulting design on the car.
  9. Tighten the hub nut with a torque wrench to 235 Nm.

Important to keep in mind! Immediately before installing the replacement unit, it is necessary to lubricate the cardan shaft, the tie rod end and the ball tie rod with lithol. Threaded connections are best lubricated with graphite grease.

Replacing the front hub bearings on the first generation Kia Rio

Replacing the wheel bearing Kia Rio until 2005 is done in the same way. Removing and pressing in a new unit is carried out according to the same algorithm as for newer models of a Korean car.

Choosing the best quality wheel bearings

The catalog numbers of the front wheel bearings for the second generation Kia Rio are as follows:

  1. SNR node, made in France.

    The designation in the catalog is 184,05 rubles, the average cost is 1200 Russian rubles.
  2. FAG assembly, made in Germany.

    It can be found in the article 713619510. The average cost is 1300 Russian rubles.

The rolling bearings for the third generation of the Korean car are as follows:

  1. SKF unit, made in France.

    Catalog number VKBA3907. The cost in the domestic car market is 1100 rubles.
  2. RUVILLE unit, made in Germany.

    In stores you have article 8405. Estimated cost is 1400 Russian rubles.
  3. SNR node, made in France.

    Article - R18911. The average cost in Russia is 1200 rubles.

Conclusion

Replacing a wheel bearing on Kia Rio cars is not an easy task, it requires a specialized tool and some skill. Such repairs may be necessary for high mileage and aggressive driving.

Due to the popularity of the Korean manufacturer's car, a decent number of plain roller bearings are on the market, which have very decent performance and a high reliability rating.
