Replacing the rear axle gearbox VAZ 2101 - 2107
Usually, the rear axle gearbox on all cars from VAZ 2101 to 2107 changes in the event of a hum or, as they say, howling when driving at high speed. Of course, at first the bridge may start to howl slightly and only at high speed, above 100 km / h. But over time, the development in the gears becomes stronger and the sounds only intensify. In this case, it is necessary to replace the gearbox. This is not a pleasant occupation, but it cannot be called particularly difficult.
It is worth noting that to perform this repair we need some tool, namely:
- open-end wrench 13 mm and box spanner 12 mm
- end head 12 mm
- a hammer
- flat blade screwdriver
- ratchet and extension
In order to easily dismantle the old gearbox from the stocking of the rear axle of the car, you will need to initially perform some work, the list of which will be given below:
- Remove the rear wheels by first lifting the car with a jack
- Dismantle the brake drums
- Drain the oil from the bridge
- Remove both axle shafts
After that, in the pit, you need to crawl under the car and unscrew the 4 nuts securing the shank to the gearbox flange, disconnect the cardan:
Now it remains to unscrew the 8 bolts securing the gearbox to the housing, first rip off the bolts with a spanner wrench, and then use the ratchet handle and head:
When it remains to unscrew the last bolt, it is necessary to do this carefully, holding the gearbox so that it does not fall, and then carefully remove it from the VAZ 2101-2107 rear axle housing, as shown in the photo below:
After that, you can make a replacement. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, but it is worth noting that it is also better to replace the gasket at the joint, since it is for a one-time replacement. It is impossible not to mention the prices for the new gearbox. By the way, depending on the model 2103 or 2106, prices can vary from 45000 to 55000 rubles, respectively.
