Replacing the cabin filter Honda SRV

Cabin filters are one of the most important elements of the air purification system supplied to the interior of any car. A model like the Honda CRV also has them, and of any generation: the first obsolete, popular Honda CRV 3 or the latest version of 2016.

However, not every owner of this crossover knows when and how to replace the filter element of the ventilation system, unlike the filters of the power unit, which are replaced at least once a year. But the frequency of installation of new consumables depends on the period of operation of the ventilation of the car and the atmosphere in the car. The less such a filter changes, the less effective air purification, and the more harmful microorganisms and unpleasant odors in the cabin.

How often do you need to replace?

You can extend the life of your CRV vent by following the recommended filter change intervals. To determine this period, it is convenient to consider the following factors:

  • the manufacturer sets the element replacement period within 10-15 thousand kilometers;
  • even if the car has not traveled a sufficient distance, the filter must be changed to a new one at least once a year;
  • when working in difficult conditions (constant travel, increased dust or air pollution in the region where the car is used), it may be necessary to reduce the replacement period - at least to 7-8 thousand km.

There are a number of signs by which the car owner can determine when the Honda SRV cabin filter needs to be replaced. These include a decrease in ventilation efficiency, which can be recognized by a decrease in the air flow rate, and the appearance of odors in the cabin that do not have visible sources. They talk about the need to constantly change and mist up the windows while driving with the windows closed and the air conditioner on. In each of these cases, you must first select and purchase a suitable filter element, and then install it; It's cheaper and easier to do this work yourself.

Choosing a Cabin Filter Honda SRV

When deciding on the type of consumable that can be installed in the Honda CRV ventilation system, two options must be considered:

  • conventional and inexpensive dust protection elements;
  • special carbon filters with higher efficiency and price.

The regular filter element of the ventilation system cleans the air stream from dust, soot and plant pollen. It is made from synthetic fiber or loose paper and is single-layered. The advantage of this product is its low price and long service life. Among the disadvantages are the minimum efficiency of cleaning from unpleasant odors and complete failure in terms of protection against toxic gases.

The principle of operation of carbon or multilayer filters is to use a porous substance - activated carbon. With the help of such a filter element, it is possible to purify the air coming from outside from most harmful compounds, including harmful gases and microelements. Factors such as air speed and temperature, as well as the degree of filter contamination affect the efficiency of carbon cleaning.

Instructions for replacing the cabin filter on a Honda CRV

To remove the old filter element and install a new one on the CRV crossover, special knowledge and experience are not required. The process itself will take no more than 10 minutes and is within the power of any motorist. The actions in this case will be as follows:

  • Before removing, prepare the appropriate tools: an 8 by 10 wrench and any Phillips screwdriver;
  • The glove compartment of the car opens and the limiters are removed;
  • the glove box lid is lowered;
  • Bolts are unscrewed with a wrench. At stage number 4, the fasteners will need to be unscrewed both on the left and on the right side;
  • The side wall of the car torpedo is unscrewed with a screwdriver, and then removed;
  • Right lower torpedo cover removed;
  • The plug of the filter element is removed;
  • The consumable itself is removed.

Now, having independently replaced the cabin filter with a Honda SRV, you can install a new element. The final stage of assembly is the installation of all parts, in reverse order. When using a non-standard (non-genuine) filter element, it may be necessary to cut it before installation. However, the use of unsuitable consumables is not recommended, as they clog faster and require frequent replacement.
