Replacing the cabin filter Kia Rio

One of the advantages of the maximum unification of conveyor production is the similarity of maintenance procedures for different cars of the same manufacturer, down to the smallest detail. For example, when you replace the cabin filter yourself with a 2-3 generation Kia Rio, you may find that it changes in the same way on other Kia cars of the same class.

Considering that this procedure is more than simple, you should not resort to the help of a car service here - you can simply change the cabin filter yourself, even without experience

How often do you need to replace?

Like most modern cars, the replacement of the third-generation Kia Rio cabin filter, or rather post-styling 2012-2014 and Rio New 2015-2016, is prescribed for each ITV, that is, every 15 thousand kilometers.

In reality, the shelf life is often significantly reduced:

  • In the summer, many Rio owners with air conditioning installed prefer to drive on dirt roads with their windows closed to keep dust out of the cabin. At the same time, a large volume of dusty air is pumped through the cabin filter, and already at 7-8 thousand it can become significantly clogged.
  • Spring and Fall: Moist air time, when rotting is more likely, even a lightly clogged filter will need to be discarded, removing the stale air in the cabin. That is why, by the way, it is best to schedule a filter replacement for this season.
  • Industrial zones and urban traffic jams actively saturate the filter curtain with soot microparticles, quickly reducing its performance. In such conditions, it is better to use carbon filters - classic paper filters quickly become clogged, or, when installing a cheap non-original, they simply cannot accommodate particles of this size, passing them into the cabin. Therefore, if your cabin filter can withstand more than 8 thousand in such conditions, you should think about choosing another brand.

If we talk about cars before 2012, they were equipped only with a coarse filter, which retains leaves, but practically does not retain dust. It is enough to shake it from time to time, but it is better to immediately change it to a full-fledged filter.

Cabin filter selection

Cabin filter Kia Rio has undergone several changes during the life of this model. If we are talking about models for the Russian market, based on the version for China, and therefore different from cars for Europe, then the factory filter item looks like this:

  • Before restyling in 2012, cars were equipped with a primitive coarse filter with catalog number 97133-0C000. Since it does not involve replacement, but only shaking off accumulated debris, they only change it to a non-original one with full filtration: MANN CU1828, MAHLE LA109, VALEO 698681, TSN 9.7.117.
  • After 2012, only one paper filter was installed with the number 97133-4L000. Its analogues are TSN 9.7.871, Filtron K1329, MANN CU21008.

Instructions for replacing the cabin filter on Kia Rio

You can replace the cabin filter yourself in a few minutes; later style cars don't even require tools. On machines prior to 2012, you will need a thin screwdriver.

First, let's free the glove compartment: to access the cabin filter compartment, you will need to disengage the limiters in order to lower the glove compartment as far down as possible.

On prefabricated vehicles, the limiters are removed after prying with a screwdriver. After releasing the latch, slide each stopper down and out. The main thing is not to hook the rubber bumper over the edge of the plastic window.

After restyling, everything became even simpler - the limiter turns its head and goes into itself.

Having thrown the glove box down, remove its lower hooks to engage with the glass at the bottom of the panel, after which we set the glove box aside. Through the free space, you can easily get to the cabin filter cover: by pressing the latches on the sides, remove the cover and pull the filter towards you.

When installing a new filter, the arrow pointer on its sidewall should point down.

However, in vehicles with air conditioning, changing the filter does not always eliminate the smell. This is especially true for car owners who initially had only a coarse filter - clogged with small villi of aspen fluff, pollen, the air conditioner evaporator begins to rot in wet weather.

For treatment with an antiseptic spray, the flexible nozzle of the cylinder is inserted through the drain of the air conditioner; its tube is located at the passenger's feet.

After the product has been sprayed, we put a container of the appropriate volume under the tube so that the foam that comes out with the dirt does not stain the inside. When the liquid ceases to come out abundantly, you can return the tube to its usual place, the remaining liquid will gradually flow out from under the cap.
