Replacing the clutch on the "Kia Rio 3"

Damage to the transmission of the machine increases the load on the engine. Replacing the Kia Rio 3 clutch is the only solution to the problems of worn parts. The procedure is easy to perform on your own, without contacting a car repair shop.

Signs of a failed clutch "Kia Rio 3"

In most cases, a malfunction in the manual transmission can be detected by creaking and knocking - this is the noise of the synchronizer carriages. In addition, the following symptoms indicate the need for repair of the node:

  • vibration pedals;
  • when starting the engine with the clutch depressed, the car twitches sharply;
  • lack of movement of the car when the gear is on;
  • when changing the box there is a slip and smells of burnt plastic.

Another sign of a malfunction is too much pressure on the Kia Rio 3 clutch, which has not been observed before.

Replacement tools and equipment

To carry out maintenance yourself, you need to prepare tools and parts. It is recommended to purchase a factory clutch (original number 413002313). In addition, you will need:

  • wrench or socket head 10 and 12 mm;
  • gloves so as not to get dirty and not get hurt;
  • marking marker;
  • screwdriver;
  • transmission seal;
  • mounting blade;
  • conductive lubricant.

It is best to install the original Kia Rio 3 clutch assembly, and not in parts. So no further repairs are required.

Step-by-step replacement algorithm

The procedure is carried out in several stages. The first step is to remove the battery. To do this, do the following:

  1. Turn off the car and open the hood.
  2. Loosen the spike bolts with a 10mm wrench.
  3. Press the clips on the positive terminal and remove the protective cover.
  4. Remove the clamp bar by removing the fasteners with a 12mm wrench.
  5. Remove the battery.

The box mounting bolts can also be unscrewed. The main thing - then when reinstalling the battery, do not reverse the polarity and do not forget to apply lubricant.

The second step is to remove the air filter:

  • Remove the ventilation pipe clamps.
  • Loosen the clamp and remove the hose.

Do the same procedure with the throttle valve. Then remove the bushings, unscrew the fasteners. Then take out the filter.

The third stage is the dismantling of the main engine block:

  • Raise the fixed support.
  • Disconnect the wiring.
  • Remove all fasteners around the ECU.
  • Delete block.

The fourth step is to remove the cables and wiring from the gearbox:

  • Disconnect the tail light switch connector by pressing on the wiring harness.
  • Remove the cotter pin from the lever shaft, for this you need to pry it with a screwdriver.
  • Remove the disk.
  • Do the same for the cables, crankshaft and speed sensors.

Fifth step - removing the starter:

  • Disconnect the traction relay unit.
  • We unscrew the fasteners under the protective cap.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the contact point.
  • Remove the screws from the bracket and move it to the side.
  • Remove the remaining fasteners along with the starter.

Sixth step: unmount the drive:

  • Remove the wheel sensor that controls rotation.
  • Remove the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  • Move the suspension strut to the side.
  • Remove the outer CV joint from 2 sides (using a spatula).

The seventh step is to remove the manual transmission:

  • Put supports under the transmission and power plant.
  • Remove all bolts at the top and bottom of the suspension bracket.
  • Carefully remove the rear engine mount.
  • Remove the manual transmission.

The eighth step is to remove the flywheel parts from the engine:

  • Mark the position of the pressure plate with a balance marker if you need to reattach it.
  • Unscrew the fasteners of the basket in stages, holding the steering wheel with a mounting spatula.
  • Remove parts from under the driven disk.

The ninth step is to remove the clutch release bearing:

  • Pry off the spring retainer on the ball joint with a screwdriver.
  • Remove the plug from the grooves of the coupling.
  • Move the bearing along the guide bush.

After each step, carefully check the parts for wear or damage. Replace defective parts with new ones. Make sure that the driven disk moves well along the splines and does not stick (you must first apply a refractory lubricant). Then you can collect in reverse order from 9 to 1 point.

Adjustment after replacement

Debugging the clutch is to check the free play of the pedal. Permissible range 6-13 mm. To measure and adjust, you will need a ruler and two 14" wrenches.

Next you need:

  1. Depress the Kia Rio 3 clutch by hand until you feel resistance.
  2. Measure the distance from the bottom to the pedal pad.

The normal indicator is 14 cm, with a larger value, the clutch begins to “get ahead”, with a smaller one, “slippage” occurs. To calibrate to a standard, loosen the pedal fasteners and then reposition the sensor assembly. If the stroke is not regulated in any way, then it is required to pump the hydraulic drive.

Replacing the clutch on a Kia Rio 3 with your own hands will help solve the problem with a worn gearbox and transmission parts. Repair at home according to the instructions will take at least 5-6 hours, but the driver will gain useful experience and save money on service at the service center.
