Replacement stabilizer struts Mercedes-Benz W210

In this article, we will consider the process of replacing the front stabilizer struts on a Mercedes-Benz W210 E Class car. Replacing the stabilizer struts is the same for both the right side and the left side, so let's look at one option. First, we will prepare the necessary tool for work.

Tool

  • Balonnik (for removing the wheel);
  • Jack (it is highly desirable to have 2 jacks);
  • Ratchet with an asterisk, size T-50;
  • For convenience: a narrow but long metal plate (see photo below), as well as a small mounting.

Algorithm for replacing the front stabilizer bar w210

We hang the left front wheel with a jack put in the regular place for the stop, first loosen the wheel bolts.

When the machine is raised, unscrew and remove the wheel completely. Now it is advisable to use the second jack, placing it under the edge of the lower arm and lifting it slightly.

If you do not have a second jack, then you can do as follows: take a thick block, which will be in length just above the lower arm. Using the jack, raise the car even higher, place a block under the lower arm, as close to the hub as possible, then carefully lower the jack a little.

Thus, the lower arm will rise higher and will not create tension in the stabilizer bar - you can proceed to removal.

Next, we take the TORX 50 (T-50) nozzle, it is an asterisk, we install it on the longest ratchet (or use a pipe to increase the lever), because the stabilizer bar mounting bolt (see photo) is extremely difficult to unscrew. Use high-quality nozzles, otherwise you can simply break them and there will be nothing to unscrew the bolt with.

After unscrewing the bolt, it is necessary to remove the other end of the stabilizer strut from the upper mount. To do this, you can use a small montage. With one hand, hold the rack itself, and with the other hand, pry off the upper “ear” of the rack with a crowbar, resting it against the lower spring mount.

Advice! Try not to focus directly on the coils of the spring, as this can damage it.

 Installing a new stabilizer bar

The installation of the new rack is carried out in the reverse order, except that for the convenience of installing the top mount, you can use a long iron strip (see photo). Substitute the stabilizer post to the installation site and, pushing the iron plastic through the lower shock absorber mount, press the reinforcement into place.

Again, do not rest against the shock absorber itself - you can damage it, it will be safer to rest against the place of its attachment.

Now all that remains is to screw the lower mount with a bolt (as a rule, a new bolt must be included with the new rack). If the bolt does not fall into the desired hole, then you need to adjust the height of the lower arm, which is very convenient to do with a second jack (or find a block for support a little higher). Successful renovation!
