Today a friend came to my garage and decided to change the rear suspension stabilizer struts on a Volkswagen Passat B6. And the symptoms, on which he decided to do it, were as follows:
- The occurrence of extraneous sounds even when driving through small irregularities on the side of the rear suspension
- Knocks and squeaks during suspension operation
- Loose back of the car
This type of repair can be done by yourself, and the following tool should be at hand:
- Spanners 16 (factory nuts) and 17 (purchased TRW stabilizer struts kit)
- TORX T30 profile bit
- Ratchet handle or crank
- Wheel wrench and jack

This process, as mentioned above, is not particularly difficult and everything can be done in your garage in the pit, even without unnecessary helpers.
- First of all, we drive our Volkswagen Passat B6 into the pit and from the inside we unscrew the stabilizer mounting nut from the bottom, holding the central bolt with a TORX bat.
- Next, we take out the bolt and one side of the rack disengages from the stabilizer.
- We unscrew the wheel, remove it, after lifting the rear of the car with a jack
- Then, from the outside, unscrew the nut securing the stabilizer post from above (where the hinge is located)
- We take out the rack and install a new one in the reverse order.
