Why you need to change discs
During operation, the working surface of the part is covered with radial grooves, and the pads no longer fit snugly against it during braking. The worse the contact between the pad and the disc, the longer the stopping distance of the car.
In addition, due to wear (abrasion), the overall thickness of the part decreases, so it is more susceptible to deformation when heated, deforms, becomes covered with microcracks and then collapses.
Timely replacement of the disk guarantees the reliability of the brakes, the safety of the car and allows you to maintain high dynamics during active rebuilding in city traffic.
When Should You Replace Your Mercedes Brake Discs?
The service life of the part is not regulated by the Assyst service system, so the decision to replace it is made based on the remaining thickness of the disk and the condition of its working surface.
It is necessary to check the technical condition of the brake system of a Mercedes car regularly, at each ITV. Depending on the model, the thickness of the front Mercedes discs is 32-25 mm, the rear 22-7 mm.
The manufacturer does not recommend wear (reduction in thickness) of the part by more than 3 mm (which corresponds to about two changes of a set of pads).
How is the replacement
Brake discs are recommended to be changed at the same time as the pads and hydraulic fluid.
- Components are swapped in pairs, along the axes, both front and rear.
- To replace a worn part, the car is mounted on a lift, the wheel and caliper are removed.
- After installation, the hydraulic drive is pumped without fail, as well as work with the car's service system.
