Replacing the starter retractor relay for a VAZ 2110-2111

The main and probably the most common reason why the starter does not work on a VAZ 2110-2111 car is a failure of the retractor relay. Of course, sometimes the device can work normally and not show signs of breakdown, but as always, at the most inopportune moment, you have to start the car from the pusher, as they say.

Symptoms of a malfunction may be different, for example, the relay clicks, but the starter itself does not turn, or it happens that when the ignition key is turned, there are no signs of life. The procedure for replacing the solenoid relay can be performed independently at home and for this you need only a minimum of a tool, namely:

• flat screwdriver
• head 8
• ratchet

Of course, you can unscrew and replace the relay without removing the starter from the car, but it is better to do all this on a device removed from the car. When this has been done, it is necessary to unscrew the nut securing the terminal to the stud, as shown clearly in the above photo:

Then carefully remove the terminal and take it with the wire a little to the side:

Now, from the back of the starter, you need to unscrew the two bolts using an ordinary flat screwdriver. All this is clearly demonstrated in the picture:

Now, without experiencing any difficulties, you can remove the relay by gently pulling it back. If it cannot be removed, then you need to slightly raise it so that it disengages from the anchor:

If it was taken out separately from the spring, then it can be removed later along with the anchor:

If necessary, buy a new retractor and install it on the starter in the reverse order. The price of this part for VAZ 2110-2111 cars is about 500 rubles. But you must agree, it's better to pay this money than to buy a new starter for 3000 rubles. The installation is carried out strictly in the reverse order, and make sure that the anchor engages, as it was before removal.
