Replacing the rear wheel bearing on the Prior

If there is an extraneous hum (noise) in the rear of the car when driving, or excessive backlash in the rear wheel, it is necessary to replace the wheel bearings. This procedure is possible at home, but only if you have the necessary tools, namely:

  • Vices
  • Hammer
  • Puller
  • 7mm and 30mm head
  • Collar with extension
  • Circlip pliers

So, the order of actions:

  1. Removing the wheel bolts
  2. Raising the back of the car
  3. Finally, we unscrew the bolts and remove the wheel
  4. We tear off and unscrew the hub nut (although it is better to do this when the car is still on wheels)
  5. Using a puller, we pull the hub off the axle shaft
  6. Clamping the hub in a vice, knock out the bearing, after removing the retaining ring
  7. Lubricate the inside and press in the new bearing to the end, using an old or wooden block

And then we install everything in reverse order on the axle shaft until it stops and tighten the wheel hub nut. This manual is suitable for both Lada Priora cars and most other front-wheel drive VAZ models.
