Replacing the rear struts and springs on the VAZ 2110-2112

The arrangement of rear shock absorber struts on VAZ 2110-2112 cars is completely similar to previous front-wheel drive cars, such as the VAZ 2109, so all work on replacing rear suspension parts will be completely identical. We can immediately say that the rear struts with springs are much easier to change than the front ones, and all this can be done with your own hands and in a short period of time. Of course, all the necessary tools should be at hand, such as:

  • blade
  • crank and ratchet
  • head for 17 and 19 as well as similar open-end and spanner wrenches
  • penetrating lubricant
  • a special wrench to keep the strut stem from turning while unscrewing the nut

So, while the car is still on the ground, you need to slightly loosen the rear drain securing nut from above, which can be accessed from the car's interior or trunk. This is how this nut looks clearly:

While loosening the nut, the rack rod must be held so that it does not turn. This can be done using a regular 6 key, or you can use a special one that is designed for this job.

After that, we rip off the rear wheel mounting bolts, raise the car with a jack or a lift and completely remove the wheel from the car. Now we have free access to the lower mounting bolts of the rear shock absorber. We unscrew the nut with a 19 wrench, while simultaneously holding the bolt from the reverse side from turning:

And then we take out the bolt from the back. It is not always possible to do all this with your hands, so you can use either a thin breakdown and a hammer so as not to damage the thread, or with the help of a wooden block and again a hammer.

Then, with a pry bar, we pry the stand from below to disengage it. This step of the procedure is shown more clearly in the photo below:

Then you can completely unscrew the upper rack mount. Personally, I got by with an ordinary open-end wrench and held the stem with a 6 key. Although, it is more convenient to do this with a special one:

Then you can remove the entire VAZ 2110-2112 rear suspension module assembly, as shown in the photo:

Removal and installation of springs, anthers and bumpers (compression buffers) on the VAZ 2110-2112

The spring can now be removed without any problems, since nothing holds it.

The boot can also be removed simply by pulling it up:

The bump stop, or as it is also called - the compression buffer is also pulled off the rod without unnecessary difficulties. If necessary, we replace all removed parts and install everything in the reverse order.

Prices for struts, rear springs and compression buffers using the SS20 as an example

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact prices, but I can roughly name the range of what and how much it costs:

  • a pair of rear racks - the price is about 4500 rubles
  • classic springs around 2500 rubles
  • compression buffers from SS20 can be purchased for 400 rubles

It is possible that there are some deviations from the above prices, but it was not long after I personally bought all this for my car.
