Replacing rear brake drums on VAZ 2114-2115

The wear of the rear brake drums on VAZ 2114-2115 cars is quite long, so they have to be changed quite rarely. But there are times that when installing low-quality pads, the surface of the drums wears out unevenly and strong grooves appear. In such cases, it is also necessary to change the drums, as the braking efficiency is noticeably reduced.

To carry out this simple repair, we need the following tool:

• Balloon wrench
• 7 deep head
• Ratchet or crank
• a hammer
• wooden block
• puller (if necessary)

So, the first thing we need to do is rip off the rear wheel bolts and jack up the rear of the car. Then finally unscrew the bolts and remove the wheel:

Then you need to unscrew the drum guide pins, keeping it from turning (you can lock them with the hand brake):

When the pins are unscrewed, you can try to remove the drum by pulling its edges to the side (first release the handbrake). If it cannot be removed, then you can gently tap it on the back with a hammer and a wooden block so as not to chip off the edges.

If this does not help, then you can try using a special puller with rotary jaws. You can also act in another way, unscrew the hub nut, and remove the drum with it, and then knock out the hub with a hammer:

If the drums need to be replaced, then it should be borne in mind that this must be done in pairs, that is, on the left and on the right at the same time! Also, it is recommended that after installing these parts, put new pads so that the wear is uniform and does not form grooves and uneven production. The price of new drums for the VAZ 2114-2115 is about 1400 rubles per pair, although you can find options both more expensive and cheaper than the mentioned price.
