Replacing the rear brake pads on the VAZ 2110
Rear brake pads on cars of the tenth family, including the VAZ 2110, wear out more slowly than the front ones. But over time, even they must be replaced. Their resource can reach 50 km, after which the braking efficiency decreases, the handbrake is getting worse, which suggests that it is time to change the pads.
This procedure is easily performed at home (garage) conditions and you will need the following tools to carry it out:
- Jack
- Balloon wrench
- 7 deep head with a knob
- Pliers and long nose pliers
- Flat and Phillips screwdriver
- If necessary, a head for 30 with a crank (if it is not possible to remove the drum)
So, we lift the back of the VAZ 2110 with a jack and unscrew the wheel. Then you need to unscrew the drum guide pins:
If it is not possible to remove the drum in the usual way, then you can unscrew the rear hub nut and remove it with it. Then the following picture is obtained:
Now we take long-nose pliers and pull out the cotter pin from the left side, as shown in the picture below:
Next, we take the pliers and disconnect the spring that pulls the pads from below:
Now it is worth noting that small springs are also present on the sides and hold the pads for greater stability. They also need to be removed by prying them with pliers:
Note that they are on both sides, both right and left. When they have been dealt with, you can try to push the pads from above, applying great effort, without even removing the upper spring. When they are stretched a sufficient distance, the plate falls by itself and the pads become free:
And they are easily removed, since nothing else holds them:
After that, we buy new rear brake pads, the price of which is about 600 rubles for a high-quality kit, and we install in the reverse order. When the pads are already installed and you will put on the brake drum, it may be difficult to install it. If he does not wear, then you should slightly loosen the handbrake cable and repeat the procedure again.
At the first time after replacing, it is worthwhile to run the mechanisms a little so that the pads get in well with the drums, and only after that the efficiency will increase and return to normal!
