Frozen car - how to remove ice and snow from it? Photoguide Fighting a frozen, snow-covered body is not easy. This can often result in damage to paintwork, seals, locks or windows. We suggest how to get rid of ice, snow and frost in a safe and effective way.

Frosty winter morning. You are in a hurry to get to work. You leave the block, enter the parking lot, and here is an unpleasant surprise: after an evening shower of icy drizzle, the car looks like an ice sculpture. To make matters worse, sleet fell during the night, which, due to the morning frost, turned into a white hard shell on the car. What to do?

Do we treat a frozen car door with warm water? Only as a last resort

Many drivers in this situation act erratically and do not think about the consequences of forcibly opening the door or scratching the paint with a scraper. They only grab their heads when melting snow exposes scratches on the door and cracked seals let water through. Luckily, a frozen car can also be opened in a less invasive way.

And what awaits us on the domestic market in 2018?

One of the most popular ways to melt snow and ice on the body is to douse the car with warm water. We emphasize - warm, but not boiling water. The advantage of this solution is the speed of action and high efficiency. Unfortunately, only temporarily. - Having poured water on the car in the cold, we will quickly open the door, but the water will get into all the nooks and crannies, including the lock and seals. Effect? It will freeze quickly which will exacerbate the problems. The next day, getting to the car will be even more difficult, says Stanisław Plonka, a mechanic from Rzeszów.

Therefore, it is advisable to use water to pour over a car only as a last resort, when the layer of snow and ice is so thick that it cannot be dealt with in any other way. After such treatment, wet elements should always be thoroughly wiped. Particular attention is paid to the seals and the door from the inside. It is also necessary to get rid of the water from the lock, for example, using a compressor at a gas station. As a preventive measure, it is worth adding a little lubricant to it, but if the frost is very strong, you can use a lock de-icer. After wiping, the seals must be rubbed with a silicone-based agent, which will prevent them from sticking to the door. – When choosing water, remember that it is not too hot. For example, under the influence of a large temperature difference, glass can break, warns Plonka.
